Week 51

Week 51 - 23-30 December 2015

Late posting again, this will be the second last posting for the year.

I took this at our christmas party, t the zoo, yes... at the zoo. Shot this baboon and her baby heading for cover as it was about to rain. It got me thinking of family, and the time of the year and spending time with family. So here's my contribution to the holidays. More soon.

Week 50

Week 50 - 16-23 December 2015
Just caught the first screening of Star Wars The Force Awakens, and realised that I haven't posted in quite a while... either 2 or 3 weeks.

In any case, here's is the highlight shot from last week. This was my favourite shot from Taylor Swift's last concert of the 1989 World Tour... and what a concert. More next wee

Week 47

Week 47 - 2-9 December 2015

Less than 2 weeks to the new Star Wars, and I can't wait. I've been playing around with the movie head shot posters so here's one of them. More next week.

Week 46

Week 46 - 24 Nov - 1 Dec 2015

Another late post. Took this last week at dusk, and I couldn't decide whether to post it or not... just another regular sunset off my balcony... or not. More next week.

Thursday, November 19, 2015

Week 45

Week 45 - 18-25 November 2015

Still buzzing from the Def Leppard concert, and it's been close to 3 hours since. Anyway, the shot for the week was always going to be of this concert, even though I did a photowalk during the day and there was a couple of visits to the Night Noodle Markets. More next week... Rock It Baby!

Week 44

Week 44 - 11-18 November 2015

Another one off the bucket list of shots. Always wanted to do a levitation shot and thanks to Bindy, this is the result. A backstroke swimmer floating with her back over water... More next week.

Week 43

Week 43 - 4-11 November 2015

One more shot from the shoot with Bindy Hocking. This time it's the master doing what she does best - the backstroke!

Took this from the edge, the pool and with a bit of of photoshop transformed the pool to open water. More next week.

Week 42

Week 42 - 28 Oct-4 Nov 2015

Here's one of my favourite outtakes from a shoot last week with Olympic Swimmer Belinda Hocking. I shot her in the gym and the pool and it was lots of fun and I managed to get scores of really good shots.

Got to really put the new LED Light Cubes to the test as well, and they performed outstandingly. Essentially, these LED Light Cubes are exactly what their names say they are... battery powered, 100mm cubes that can act as strobes or video lights. More next week.

Strobes Info: 2 LED Light Cubes both at 1/200. One on a light stand about 5 feet in front of Bindy for backlighting. The other was being held over her about 2-3 feet above.

Week 41

Week 41 - 21-28 October 2015

Another late post, but life seems to get in the way of posting! But not in the way of shooting though, so I suppose that not a bad thing.

Took this a couple of weeks ago while sitting by the river. Wether landing or taking off, helicopters still are a real fascination for me. And as it was Caufield Cup Day, so the helicopters where working overtime, flying people to and from the racetrack. More in a few days to get me right on track and squared up to the correct week on my "A-shot-a-week".

Week 40

Week 40 - 14-21 October 2015

Shot of the Gold Coast at night from the hotel room at some ungodly hour of the morning. What a sight? More next week.

Sunday, October 18, 2015

Week 39

Week 39 - 7-14 October 2015

Another late post... this one's from last week's National costume launch... this was one of the finalist designs... just did a montage for fun. More next week.

Saturday, October 10, 2015

Week 38

Week 38 - 30 Sept - 7 Oct 2015

After what seems like an eternity of travel and airports, I thought this shot of my last flight, after so many, was very poignant.

Took this at some ungodly hour of the morning, at the crack of dawn, waiting for my flight to Sydney this time.

Funny enough because we had just moved to daylight saving, I was at the airport an hour early. Genius. More next week.

Week 37

Week 37 - 23-30 Sept 2015

Another late post for the week, and another from the Night Race. Had a few goes at this particular shot. I wanted to show movement on the Jubilee Bridge, so I tried keeping my camera still for as long as i could hold it and get the movement of people. I eventually managed to time it with a boat passing under the bridge and as an added bonus a lone figure on the left that did not move for the duration of the shot. More next week.

Week 36

Week 36 - 16-23 September 2015

Again about a week late to post, but better late than never, I guess. This one is taken at the Singapore Night Race, and we see Daniel Ricciardo coming out of left hander at turn 7 and breaking at the 50m mark before the right hander at turn 8. All very exciting, if you're into Formula 1. Anyway, more from my travels next week.

Friday, September 11, 2015

Week 35

Week 35 - 9-16 September 2015

Looked at this shot from my return flight last week from the US; just moments before I head off on another flight, this time for a holiday.

It got me thinking of which is better- the flight out or the flight back home? As much as I'm excited to leave today, I must admit that the flight home last week was a real relief. Or maybe that was just the lack of nicotine talking. Whatever. More next week from Singapore.

Saturday, September 5, 2015

Week 34

Week 34 - 26 August - 2 September 2015

Took this just outside AT&T Park in San Francisco. The habour was full of these sailboats with their masts sticking out. In trying to create some order out of this chaos, I managed to find some symmetry and leading lines for the shot this week. Again a late post this week. Hopefully soon I'll get back into a proper swing of things. More next week.

Thursday, September 3, 2015

Week 33

Week 33 - 19-26 August 2015

Took this flying in the northern hemisphere... somewhere between Maui and San Francisco. Posting this a couple of weeks late, but travelling doesn't give me much time to post. More next week or in a couple of days.

Wednesday, August 12, 2015

Week 32

Week 32 - 12-19 August 2015

One more shot at double exposure. It's a bit like a drug habit I just can't kick. Each time I think I've had enough, I just keep coming back to it when it's time to post. Well if it's fun, I might as well enjoy it while it lasts. More next week.

Thursday, August 6, 2015

Week 31

Week 31 - 5-12 August 2015

A last minute change of post for this week. Instead of something new, here's something from way, way back... shot on an A55 I think.

Anyway the reason for this post is that this car you see in the photo, a 1957 T-Bird, is for sale... you can find it here. Go have a look and pass the word around. More next week.

Strobist info: From what I can remember, there were 2 flashes. One in the car, bare and on full and sitting in the passenger's footwell. The other on a beauty dish about 2 feet away from the driver and about 6-7 feet high. Both were fired with some nondescript  wireless trigger.

Week 30

Week 30 - 29 July - 5 August 2015

More fun with double exposures. Was thinking of posting stuff from Melbourne Open House this year, but that's on another album.

Anyway, this late posting is another of the few "Double Exposure" shots I've been playing with. More next week.

Wednesday, July 22, 2015

Week 29

Week 29 - 22-29 July 2015

A bit of a slow couple of weeks photo wise. More product and "work" shots, less on the shots I really want to do.

So we're back to another double exposure shot. And instead of a tree or flowers, I've decided to double expose with the Melbourne skyline at night. More next week.

Thursday, July 9, 2015

Week 27

Week 27 - 8-15 July 2015

Been playing with one light portraits the past few days, just trying to keep it simple. This week's offering (although a day late), isn't one of those, but it's still a cool shot I think. More next week, maybe one of the one light ones... who knows.

Wednesday, July 1, 2015

Week 26

Week 26 - 1-7 July 2015

Watched this interesting new show called Zoo, so I couldn't resist posting this one of the King of the Jungle. Roar. More next week.

Wednesday, June 24, 2015

Week 25

Week 25 - 24 Jun - 1 Jul 2015

Another really busy week gone past. I2 hour work days even through the weekend, but thankfully, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I did, however, manage to steal a few hours on Saturday to take shots of the soon-to-be-married Devine Ms M.

Here she is being serenaded to by the house band at Crown... well some call it serenading, others might just call it an intoxicated dance... it's a matter of perspective, I guess. More next week.

Wednesday, June 17, 2015

Week 24

Week 24 - 17-24 Jun 2015

Missed out on posting last week because it was a really busy one. Anyway, here's one from today's shoot with Monika Radulovic, Miss Universe Australia 2015. Here's a behind the scenes shot. Lighting courtesy of a massive ring flash. More next week.

Wednesday, June 3, 2015

Week 22

Week 22 - 3-7 June 2015

Out to Sydney on the weekend and took a few panoramic shots of the iconic Opera House, and then a tall ship comes into view. More next week.

Thursday, May 28, 2015

Week 21

Week 21 - 27 May - 3 June 2015

Heaps of portrait shot and a really cool double exposure shot as well this week. But ended up picking this high key one as my favourite. The really cool double exposure was a bit creepy though.

Anyway, here's one that I overexposed hoping to capture those blue eyes... and it worked. More next week.

Strobist info: 2x FVL 60AM onfull per through a Lumodi beauty dish and a little 8 inch softbox in a clamshell shape slightly towards camera right.

Thursday, May 21, 2015

Week 20

Week 20 - 20-26 May 2015

Been thinking about doing a levitation shot for a while. Although this weeks offering isn't exactly what I had in mind, I was playing with stuff from the archives and put this together. God light, hot model and photoshop... what's not to like. More next week.

Wednesday, May 13, 2015

Week 19

Week 19 - 13-20 May 2015

More concert stuff. this time a little montage of Alice Cooper with his band, featuring the excellent Nita Strauss.

What a great concert night. Alice Cooper opened for Motley Crue on their All Bad Things Must Come To An End Tour. But the master of shock rock really took the cake in theatrics... not to say that Motley Crue were any slouches, they had dancing girls and the "Cruecify" Tommy Lee's drum rollercoaster. You'll find some shots of them on a Flickr Album. More next week.

Thursday, May 7, 2015

Week 18

Week 18 - 6-13 May 2015

Here's this week's offering. Shot this at the Miss Universe Australia Victorian Finals. Another one off the bucket list... ish. Just wished I had better lighting, not that the stage lighting was bad, just wanted more control. The kind of control that a couple of strobes would have helped. Anyway, I'm hoping I'll get a fewer bites at a runway shot soon. More next week.

Wednesday, April 29, 2015

Week 17

Week 17 - 29 April - 6 May 2015

Not quite a bucket list shot, but still had fun shooting this. Plastic shoes with a just a touch of lens flare from the strobes.

Been a bit slack with my weekly shots, missed last week but no point putting up something I didn't really like. More next week.

Strobist info: 2 x Sony HVL F60M on Manual on full power. One with a snoot for the flare, and another with a diffuser about 4 feet away at 45 degrees for fill.

Wednesday, April 15, 2015

Week 15

Week 15 - 15-22 April

Another of one of my bucket list of shots is High Key Black and White portraits. So thanks to Fi, the ever ready model, here's my favourite shot of the session. I'll post more from the session soon. More next week.

Strobist info: 2 x Sony HVL F60M on Manual on full power. One for the background, and another with a diffuser 4 feet away at 45 degrees.

Week 14

Week 14 - 08-15 April

Kept this for a while, but I really like the very tender moments of the first dance. Thanks Greg and Lauren for inviting me to the wedding. Really had a great time, and yes you made it to "A shot a week". More next week.

Wednesday, April 1, 2015

Week 13

Week 13 - 1-7 April 2015

Had a wedding shot prepared for this week, but after this afternoon's Archery session, and this pair of Bad Ass ladies taking aim. Form, poise, stance... they had the look down pat. More next week.

Wednesday, March 25, 2015

Week 12

Week 12 - 26 March - 1 April 2-15

Admittedly, I've kept this shot for the past 2 and a bit weeks. I took this at the Grand Prix sideshow entertainment.... this was the extreme bikes show. Caught in the middle of a 360... I love it. More next week.

Wednesday, March 18, 2015

Week 11

Week 11, a photo by DarrenNunis on Flickr.
Week 11 - 18-25 March 2015

This week was always going to be about the Grand Prix. At this year's Australian Grand Prix, I had the chance to shoot from several points around the track. This is my favourite, mainly because of the sparks spurting out from the back. The next time I'll get a chance to shoot a Formula One car will hopefully be at the night Grand Prix in Singapore later in the year. Vrooom! More next week.

You'll find more shots of the Grand Prix and the action around the track here

Week 09

Week 09 - 26 February - 4 March

Well one of my bucket list shots is to do a concert shoot. And not just any concert, but a big arena/stadium venue kind of concert... sadly, most venues stop you from even using a phone to take a photo.

Why? I don't know. I mean it's not like anyone's going to make any money from the images; and even if you shoot a video and post it on youtube, other than further promoting the artiste, there isn't much benefit to the person who shot the video. And I don't think that I'm alone in thinking like this.

Anyway, this weeks shot is of the Foo Fighters, namely Dave. Got a new little canon point and shoot with an 18x zoom. I like it. Still would much rather be standing with my 80-200mm rather than sneaking my little Canon point and shoot. More next week.

Friday, February 27, 2015

Week 08

Week 08 - 19-25 February

Not exactly a bucket list shot, but, I've been trying to get a shot of this wall for a while... Well, ever since my friend took a shot of it and said that it looks like me. In my 3 attempts to go take a shot in front of this wall, I've forgotten to load a battery in the camera (Rookie mistake, I know), and brought the wrong lens twice (my attempt at trying to minimise my walk around gear).

So here's this weeks shot, but I'm sure that the graffiti isn't the most interesting thing in the shot. More next week.

Wednesday, February 18, 2015

Week 07

Week 07 - 12 -18 February

Missed out on a shot last week, partly because I wasn't too happy with the double exposure shots I took and also because I was' t sure if I wanted to do a double exposure type shot.

Anyway, how fast a fortnight has passed and I'm still stuck, so here's the shot I intended to post last week. Just a merging of 2 shots... 1 from a 50mm and the other from the 80-200mm. More next week.

Wednesday, February 4, 2015

Week 05

Week 05 - 29 Jan - 4 Feb

Next on the bucket list of shots is the double exposure shot. Saw a shot like this a while ago and found that it was inspired by Sarah Byrne's double exposure tutorial:
www.sarakbyrne.com/canon-5d-mark-iii-double-exposure-tuto...

Ever since, I've wanted to do something like it, and now I'm glad it's done. I might spend another week or 2 playing with this. More next week.

Week 04

Week 04 - 24-30 January 2015

The last of the Milk Dress series.  I actually have enough shots to go on for a couple of months, but I think it's already close to being overkill.

So next week it's back to the bucket list shots... I wonder what I can tee up for the weekend. More next week.

Strobist info: 2 Profoto B1's with the big Octas on the model's diagonal, each about 8 feet away from the model.

Sunday, January 25, 2015

Week 03

Week 03 - 16-23 January 2015

Wow this took longer than I expected... So I'm posting my 2nd Milk dress that i was going to do for week 3, well into week 4. Better late than never I guess. This one's a bit of a harp back to the 80's... with the shoulder pads, power dressing and all that. More next week.

Strobist info: 2 Profoto B1's with the big Octas on the model's diagonal, each about 8 feet away from the model.

Friday, January 16, 2015

Week 02

Week 02 - 8-15 January 2015

As promised, the milk dress. This one's the test/instructional version, when I get down to it, I'll post the other one. And yes, this really did take more than a week to put together, and I had already done 50% of the work a while ago. More next week.

Strobist info: 2 Profoto B1's with the big Octas on the model's diagonal, each about 8 feet away from the model.

Wednesday, January 7, 2015

Week 01

Week 01, 01-07 January 2015

I know I did say I was going for the milk dress this, my first week, but I never quite got to finishing it. So here's a variation of one of my bucket-list shots.

I actually had penciled in a helicopter shot in my list, but here's one that's a bit higher. Shot this from my flight back from Perth. I figured it's a bit more of a hard to get shot, unless banking left and sitting by the window is a regular occurrence. More next week.

365

365 - 31/12/14

Happy New Year everyone.

That's it... I'm done with a shot a day. My 365 got stretched to a 5 year journey... in total, 1800 shots. So that's it.

I'd like to thank all 1.2 million+ views on Flickr and Blogspot for coming over and taking a look and commenting. I'd like to thank all the people that have willingly and unwittingly been subjects of my shots. I'd like to thank Dustin Diaz for the inspiration to start this 365, Guy Gowan for opening my eyes to photoshop; and of course to Sony for making the cameras that I love using.

So what's NEXT? No more 365, means I'll get more sleep, but now I'll try harder projects/shots that might require more work than a shot a day would. So I'm going to be doing a shot a week. Hopefully there'll be more kickass shots and to start off with I'm doing the Milk dress (fingers-crossed). No more tomorrow, but more next week.
