Strange Fruit - Billie Holiday

Fun day today. Finished the final touches to a new website at work (go to www.sunsense.com on the 2nd of October to see it). Had lots of fun working on the unveiling of a new TV commercial and took quite a few photos, even if most of them were of a fat hairy guy in budgie smugglers (with the head cut out, so that everyone could put their head through and make funny faces).

Today's shot is of the fruit platter we had. Which is about the closest I ever get to fruit. Simple flash set up and HDR and a bit of photoshop. More tomorrow.

PS. I couldn't resist. Here's just one of the cut out pictures.

Secret Garden - Bruce Springsteen

Quick post today. Didn't get to post it last night, was too tired after football, so am doing this the morning after.

Here's a shot form the balcony with my 19-35mm lens. HDR'd of course and a bit of tilt-shift in photoshop. More tomorrow.. (today?)

Pictures of Lily - The Who

Got another lens off ebay today... well it arrived today. So you know I had to try it out. The lens is a 19-35mm F3.5-4.5 Minolta lens. Not as sharp as I would like it to be, but I've been short of a wide lens, and till I actually get my full frame, I really don't want to be spending on made for APC sensor sized lenses.

Anyway, this lovely lily was brought in to work and sat on the next , so I had to take it, HDR it and post it. More tomorrow.

Membership Has Its Privileges - American Express Trademark

Another vampire shot. Apparently people in the know say that the fang is located on the cuspid (as in this shot) as opposed to the lateral incisor (as in my other vampire shots). How was I to know, it's not like I'm a dentist or part of the vampire fraternity (you see where I'm going with the membership has its privileges tag).

Anyway, here's a simple flash setup shot, with HDR and a bit of photoshop. I hope I got the fang location right this time. More tomorrow.

Necessary Evil - Debbie Harry

It's late and I still have heaps of ironing to do. It's one of those things I really hate doing every weekend. I tend to keep it to the last possible minute, and then suffer the consequences of a tired Monday morning afterwards. looks like this week is going to be no different.

Anyway I thought I might combine my least liked thing to do with something I like doing - My 365.

Simple shot with an f1.4, one flash and HDR. Did try getting the steam into the shot, but after 20 tries, I gave up and thought this was good enough.

Over The Rainbow - Judy Garland

A draw. Who would have thunk it. And a rematch next week. I'm talking about the AFL Grand Final... unbelievable.

Anyway, today's shot was taken from my balcony right after the final whistle. Low and behold 2 rainbows - maybe it was a sign from above about the draw. Or maybe it was just a good photo op. Did a bit of HDR and colour correction, just wished I got less burn from the left rainbow. More tomorrow.

Ride The Lightning - Metallica

Stuck in traffic with nothing but the radio and a camera in hand, well you know I'm going to be taking some shots.

Took this in front of the NGV (National Gallery of Victoria) where they are having the European Masters Exhibition and I think they've really outdone themselves with the names of the artist in lights stretched from ground to roof. It's really something to behold. It's a shame I only had my 50mm with me. HDR this to try and get the wall to pop. More Tomorrow.

Jewels Like Fairy Lights - Colour

Spent the day in St Kilda today for work. We spent most of the day indoors, so I only had time to grab a few shots in between sessions. Anyway, here's the shot of the piece of art in the foyer of the Novotelle (where we had the seminar). More tomorrow.

100 days to go. Tomorrow onwards, we'll be on to double digits.

OK, back from football, really tired and it's almost 1am, need sleep, zzzzz.

Today's shot is of my Alesis M1 Active Mk2 studio monitors. Great speakers and really the best sound system I could want for my room. Shot this with one light and HDR'd it to get the textures of the body and cone to come out. Got a bit of bokeh going in the background as well. More tomorrow.

101 days to go! I'm thinking of keeping it going for another 365, but I don't know... we'll see on New Year's Eve I guess.

Today's shot is at an Indian restaurant in Middle Park. A bit empty, but great food. Took the shot, HDR and slight colour correction. More tomorrow.

Daniel and the Sacred Harp - The Band

Short post tonight. A bit sleepy now and I've only just managed to set up this shot before the batteries went dead.

Anyway, here's my harmonica, key of C. It was given to years ago by a friend and I still haven't got past amazing grace and you are my sunshine... check that, just tried you are my sunshine and that was a no go. I did some HDR and colour channel switching to really make the tin shine. More tomorrow.

Four Seasons in One Day - Crowded House

Welcome to Melbourne... T-shirt weather one minute, jumper, the next. Went out for lunch in Carlton, just off Lygon and it was beautiful Spring weather, by the time lunch had finished, it was back to winter, and within the first beer, it was deep winter... Ce la vie in Melbourne.

Today's shot is of Argyle park, which is the civic space just off the famous Lygon Street. Come Grand Prix time, Ferrari practically takes over this park, in fact the whole of Lygon Street, and the park becomes the central focus. I HDR'd it to really bring the little path to life. More Tomorrow.

That's Me - Genesis

Have to come clean. I repeated a shot yesterday, what's worse I even repeated the line that went with the shot. It was bothering me the whole day after I posted. Something inside kept telling me that I had used the line before, and probably used the shot of the watch before. And so I went back through my 365 and found it. Right on my birthday, I took a shot of my watch, on a black background and paired it with the same line. So there you go I've said it... feels better, but still feeling guilty (that's the probably the catholic in me). It was a completely different treatment though, so hopefully that's a saving grace.

OK on to today's shot. That's me taking a shot of myself through the side mirrors of the car. I wasn't driving... just to be clear. Got the nice bokeh and couldn't resist HDRing it. More tomorrow.

A Hazy Shade of Winter - Paul Simon (I like the Bangles version too)

105 days to go. When I do get to the 100 days to go milestone, I think I'll have to do something special. However, I was thinking of doing something special for the halfway mark, but that came and went even before I realised it.

Last week at about this time, I was trying to get to 10,000 views on Flickr. It took the better part of 9 months for me to get to that mark. Jump 5 days from that and I've already passed 11,000. When it rains it pours.

On to today's shot. That's my trusty watch given to me by my most favourite Aunt in the whole world, Aunty Carol. Simple flash set up and HDR'd. Look closely and you can even see my thumb print on the glass... damn you HDR! More tomorrow.

Here's my bass guitar. Now think back to the 80's and think about one of those typical 80's pop bands, now think of the bassist, now picture his bass. it's not very big, it doesn't have a head like other guitars, it's really a plank with 4 strings. Well that's my bass.

Instead of taking a full shot of it, I've decided to take parts of the bass. HDR'd of course. Simple shots really, but I like how my 25 year old 11 coat spray painting job looks. More tomorrow.

Same Ol' Situation - Mötley Crüe

See this ball here, it's not merely a tennis ball, it's also a massager of the highest quality. Put it between a wall or floor and a troubled (see achey) spot on your body and it's a few rolls away to pure relief... ahhh!

Took this with a couple of lighting aids that are not flashes. Used my iPhone set on the My Light App to the left of the ball. And just behind the ball is my iMac with a white wallpaper. You may also notice a splash of yellow light coming from the back of the ball (about 10 o'clock) that's the little torch at the end of the chain. HDR'd of course to try and get the furry texture to really pop out. More Tomorrow.

Take Me Home Tonight - Eddie Money

I've gone HDR loco. I had to work on a product shot at work today and my natural instinct was to get different exposures, tonemapping, you know the drill. And I mean it was like complete muscle memory. I've been doing this HDR thing for almost 2 months now, so I really don't know how this, muscle memory thing has come about. But I love it.

On to today's shot. Here's my Strat, of 1972 vintage, and she's my baby. HDR'd to try and pull that grain from that 38 year old wood. More tomorrow.

OK hit the 10,000 mark last night at about midnight, so thanks everyone for coming by. Now that it's come and gone, it seems like such a non-event... not that it ever was an event to start with I guess.

Today's picture is of the front of the Greek Orthodox Church here in South Melbourne. it started off white, but HDR kind of dirtied the look, but what I really like about it is the door. More tomorrow.

Up on the Roof - Carole King/James Taylor

Well it's really getting close to 10,000 views on Flickr and for some strange reason, I'm really excited about it. I don't know why, it's only a number, it's not like it's a really big number, I've seen people with over 100,000 views, but still I'm excited. So all of you who have come over and clicked on my photos over the past year, thanks a million (or 10,000).

On to today's shot. This is of a church in South Melbourne. It's called St Luke's Anglican Church circa 1867. Really like the slate roof looks through the clouds. Of course HDR brought it all out.

Loving Cup - Rolling Stones

A bit of a slow day 365-wise. Took a few shots this afternoon, and I will post them, but I really wanted something other than the people I work with.

Short on inspiration and pressed for time, I took this with 2 flashes and HDR. I was trying to make the texture of the cup pop. I'm happy with the pink bits, but the grey bit, which is actually silver/mirrored, I'm less enamoured. More tomorrow.

Gone is the man flu and it's back to work again. Took this beer bottles standing on my kitchen table. I was hoping HDR would bring out the textures of the different materials, the plastic, stainless steel, glass, clothes and the black granite kitchen top. I think it does.

On an aside, I was hoping to reach 10,000 views on Flickr by the end of the week. I think I might fall a bit short, but I'm going to give it a real hot go! More tomorrow.

Back early today, was feeling under the weather. So that's my excuse for not shooting much. However that does not mean I didn't shoot anything, or for that matter HDR anything.

Here's my staple gun, it doesn't really work too well, but it does the job I guess. Anyway here it is sitting out on the floor of my balcony. Took this with my beercan lens and HDR'd it. Hope you like it. More tomorrow.

To fill the void of a lack of True Blood this week, because of the Labor Day holiday, us outside the US have to get our fix elsewhere.

Here's Fiona again doing her best vampire pose. Actually we were taking a few portrait shots and the vampire posing usually rounds up the shoot.

Heartbreak Hotel - Elvis Presley

Took this again in South Melbourne. While HDRing this, I was really surprised to see it dates back to 1867. Considering Melbourne is celebrating it's 150th birthday this year, this hotel was built just 6 years after the cities birth. Wow.

Don't really know what it's like inside, but it does look a tad dingy, then again this weather makes everything look dingy, but I'll make it a point to go in there one day and see if the publican can shed a bit more light on the building's history. Other than that, it's really been a dreary day, and no matter how much photo filtering I did to the sky, I can't really mask the grey skies. Oh Spring why has thou forsaken us? More tomorrow.

Wet, rainy and downright dreary... good for sleeping in and really good for HDRing cobblestones.

Took this shot while doing the weekly grocery shopping around the South Melbourne Markets. Took quite a few more shots around the area, but along with great looking cobblestones, the dreariness also brings terrible skies for HDRing. You can't have it all. More tomorrow. Have a great weekend.

Light Up Ya Lighter - Michael Franti

Another slow shooting day. Didn't get to take much photos because for the first time in 346 days, I was without my camera... Left it on my table and walked out of the house. Can you imagine my sheer terror when I opened my camera bag at work to find that my camera was not there. Sends chills down my spine just thinking of it again.

Did a clear out of my camera bag just to make sure that I did not put it into the front pocket or accidentally left it in one of the 3 memory card holders (I was also getting a tad paranoid) when I found these. 5 lighters! I had 5 lighters, 2 flashes, 4 lenses, a whole lot of gels, but no camera.

Anyway got back home to find it sitting safely on the table, pulled out the 5 lighters (none of which still work) and shot 'em. HDR and Guy Gowan retouched 'em and viola.

OK quick post today, am running late... anyway here's my shower tap, HDR'd of course. It sits on the wall and has been the source of many a back injury. It sits halfway up my back and if you turn too quickly, it's prongs are there to give your spine a good stab. Maybe it's just me... more tomorrow.

First day of spring, but it really doesn't feel like it. Anyway, here's a shot of a really lovely pair of slippers, well a slipper to be exact. This was taken at the end of the work day. Had my camera and flash with Lumiquest SB III, and just took a few shots. Of course HDR really brought out the texture of the lace and the sheen of the satin. I also like the definition of the pants material.

That's about it for me today. Will post more tomorrow.

My Little Machine Track - Sonny Boy Williamson I

Last day of winter! And as I was taking this, hand held, and shivering my ass off, I was hoping I had brought my tripod down with me. That's my excuse for the somewhat blurred shot today.

Today's shot is at my new go to place, the car park. This is of a little scooter that sits in the corner, again I figured the concrete and the different textures on the scooter would really come to the fore in HDR. More tomorrow.
