I can't believe it's been a month since I started My 365. That's 8.49315% of the way through. I'm not complaining... yet. It's been a lot of fun and a great learning experience.

Today's shot features one of my guitars, it's a Takamine GS-334 with a combo of Fishman under the saddle and Baggs under the bridge transducer pickups. And it has brass pins to boot. Beautiful sound. Shot it with the lights of the apartment opposite, in the background and then I flip the image 90 degrees clockwise.

What lens?

Need I say more?

For the past few days I've been harping about my newly acquired Rokkor 50mm lens, well this is the lens that my Rokkor lens is replacing. This 50mm is an autofocus lens, about 25 years younger and fully compatible with my camera. And by all accounts a damn fine lens. It's been my go to lens and now, I've gone and left her for a cougar. I've traded this young, nubile lens for one 3 times her age. I've forsaken simplicity for complexity... I'm ranting, I know.

I'll shut up and sign off. Till tomorrow then.

A little tribute to a much admired creator of my favourite antihero - Holden Caufield. JD Salinger, thanks for soothing my teenage angst.

Thanks to Fifi for her amazing pink nails, sensational hair and her patience in this shot.

Shot was taken with my 3 day old Rokkor 50mm F1.4... have I professed enough how much I love it? Besos.

What?

The picture was asking for it.

OK this is a Chatek or Chapteh, it's a feathered hacky sack, and it's played the same way you would a hacky sack. It was a favourite childhood toy. And it's 1 of 4 I have left in my possession.

Took the shot with a flash with CTO gel, 7 feet from camera right. And with my newly acquired 30+ year old, 50mm F1.4, all steel Minolta Rokkor lens. Funny how the EXIF data says 0mm on this. Might soon become a favourite lens, but shhhhhh, my 50mm F1.7 might get jealous. Till tomorrow then.

Seems my attempt at an early posting was in vain today. Was watching the cricket when boom boom boom went the fireworks! Couldn't resist this shot and hence the early post for day 27. And you can see a few more here, here and here.

So failing a better shot to take tomorrow (that's an hour and 40 minutes away) here's Day 027zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

So what did you do this Australia Day? While most had the obligatory BBQ/cookout, we did a one up and had an Acupuncture Party... along with a cookout.

Meet Amanda. That's her wrist with a needle in it, apparently that does something for the heart. This is according to Jaq (You met her in 008/365), who is studying acupuncture now. See here for another shot. After yesterday's hike up Mount Rooftop and Wednesday's football with the Welly, Jaq was kind enough to let us be her guinea pigs for some treatment. I must say the legs felt a lot less achey if only I didn't fall asleep....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

It's the rooftop baby! 7 stories up and walking! We walked up! And if you know me, you know that when it comes to walking, less is best. But it was worth the hike. It was a nice cool summer night on the eve of Australia Day, and the rooftop bar offered a whole lot of great cityscape photo ops, like this, this, this, this and this.

Anyway it's late and I'm tired, thank goodness for a public holiday. Happy Australia Day one and all, and to all a goodnight.

Today I shot a shot glass... OK it's not a shot glass, it's one of those IKEA glasses, but I couldn't resist. It's the weekend before Australia Day, and I've got the Monday off. How sweet is that?

Today's shot was taken with the aid of a clear plastic champagne bucket, a brand new pillowcase from Spotlight which I got today and a torchlight for the bottom lighting. I did try my off camera flash, but no matter how much I reduced it's power, it tended to be too over-powering. So it was back to longer exposure times. The lights from the back are from the buildings 2 blocks across.

Will try something different tomorrow with James when we go to Baranows, but it'll be a late post.

This was lunch at Es Teler in Carlton. Indonesian food - reasonably priced and really tasty. I had the Sop Bontot (bum soup... how's that for literal translation) it's oxtail soup actually... yum.

Had a few shot options today, see here and here, all of which are posted on Not 365, but this one was chosen because I rarely ever take food shots and really when was the last time you saw shots of food scraps. I just like the mix of colours on a once white plate and it was a really simple shot to take. Besos.

People this is noontec, noontec these are people... ok done with the pleasantries. This is the remote control to my new noontec media player. It has LAN, all the stick in usb, media card thingys, and once I stick a hard disk in there, it'll record as well. How cool is that? And all this for under $100. Thanks Zazz, and thanks Mitch for introducing me to them (and sorry I didn't get your solar-powered ipod charger, it took a while to sign up).

I know this shot is a bit "adverty", but that's what I do in my day job, and you know, sometimes I can't help but bring my work home. But thanks to a white bed sheet, a freshly cleaned table, a kick-ass flash and some photoshop, it looks pretty pristine.

That's it for today, I have to get back to my new friend. New episode of Fringe is on.

Here's the view from the Mordialloc Motor Yacht Club. Where's the water? I hear you say. Where are the Yachts? Well look closely and you'll see a mast, but what really caught my eye was this house. I reminds me of Gilligan's Island and the B52s. Why? Who knows.

Anyway, the shot is a coming together of 2 shots really. First, the sky which was shot with a tungsten white balance, and the house was done with a normal white balance, photoshop did the rest.

Meet Jeff. He's one of the guys at The Welly FC. Jeff's a great guy and has a heart as big as his frame, and it's a big frame. He's currently single and in the market, so ladies beware.

Anyway here's the shot of the day, here, here, here, here, here are others that might have made it, but nonetheless are in my not 365, so have a look and meet the rest of the guys at the best little football club in Melbourne. Till tomorrow then.

I couldn't resist. The eeriness of the night sky and there sitting in bold white letters...

Was a bit pressed for time today (blame 2 new episodes of 24 and Heroes for that, that and having to pick up my car from the workshop... I know ... excuses excuses), so it was back to taking a shot off the balcony, this time it's the other side. See here, here and here in my Not 365 for shots that almost made it . Also used my beautiful beercan lens for this.

Here's me trying to do the bokeh thing and playing with gels on the flash and white balances. Quite a bit of fun there. Here's the one I like best.

So here are my paint brushes, nothing fancy, no sable or horse hairs going on here, but nonetheless these 10 brushes see me through week in week out, so I love them long time. That's it for today. Would love some ides for tomorrow.

This is a 1L bottle of POM that Yvette bought yesterday. Cool bottle shape, but pomegranate juice... are you serious? And because I'm into design and the like, I really found the packaging interesting, so it was imperative I took a shot of it.

Shot was done with the help of Yvette holding the backdrop aka white towel, Camera with a 50mm at F1.7 on a 10 sec timer with a wireless link to my flashgun directed at backdrop.

This is my new Foosball table. It's a Christmas present from my sister Yvette. Was running out of things to shoot today, mainly because on my 3 trips out of the house today, I was without my camera. You would think I would be more diligent... you would think, but you would be wrong.

Anyway, I'm doing this while watching football on TV, and it's 3.08 am. I also posted my new painting for the week, so I haven't been completely useless today. Till tomorrow then.

Meet Chrissy and Kat. Just 2 of the many beautiful people I work with. They're both brand managers at Ego Pharmaceuticals and were very kind to let me use this shot for My 365 today.

As you can tell, I spent part of the work day taking a few portraits, this was just a little aside, a bit of "Girls Gone Wild" to quote Chrissy. Sweet.

Cool that's it for today, didn't have to spend the hour or so fiddling for today's 365... nice one. Happy weekend peeps.

Talk about the 11th hour. Pressed for time and inspiration, here's what I came up with for today's 365. Didn't have to travel far... this is the view from my balcony. Just sat my camera on my solid-Topman-made-in-Japan-ancient tripod and let it open for about 15 seconds.

I know it seems a bit lazy, but I did try other shots today, but was having a bad flash day. More tomorrow, good night.

This is the reflection of the sky from the big stainless steel sign of the ACCA (that's the Australian Center for Contemporary Arts... shouldn't that be ACFCA). It's actually only a stones throw from where I live, and I must say it is an impressive structure. It's a wonder that I don't have a bagful of photos from that place, considering that it's a favourite site for fashion and wedding shots, and even a Bollywood movie.

The only reason I took this shot today was because I had to take public transport to work today and the walk back from the train station takes me past the ACCA. Why I had to take public transport is a whole other story.

Anyway here and here are other shots that didn't make today's cut, but I still fancy them enough.

At dinner tonight... (It was Chris' birthday- BTW Chris is a killer DJ and a great drummer too) Back to the dinner. There's this Thai place along Victoria Parade that does all you can eat for $29.90. That's over 50 dishes from the menu and it's all you can eat... whose bright idea was that?

Well, we ate big and had a great evening. Here's another picture that could have made today's 365, but I kind of like this a smidgen more. You might see the rest of the photos from the night if I do decide to post it on Facebook.

This is my Minolta Super SRT. Does it take beautiful pictures? Who knows. I got this on ebay and it came with some nice extras like a 135mm F2.8, this 50mm F1.7 and a 35mm F2.8. But best of all, it came with an old Topman made in Japan tripod. Heavy as hell, slightly squeaky but nothing is ever going to bring it down... it's solid.

Meet the clock. It sits just across the way from my balcony... and as far as timepieces go, this one is right next to useless. It rarely ever tells the correct time, don't even start with daylight saving and also both clocks always have different times.

It's Sunday night now and I'll see you tomorrow.

Great dinner with good friends on the occasion of Glo's (The make-up applying person on yesterday's post) last night in Melbourne. As you can tell it's at the Clarendon, it's a swanky little joint that serves some nice meals... so if you're ever down South Melbourne way...

The shot was taken before the start of the festivities and it's entitled EMULATION because I saw a similar shot taken by a good friend of mine. So James, thanks for the inspiration.

Took this just as the sun was setting from Cheyanne's house a few hours ago. Lovely BBQ (you know it's good when the salad is just a table ornament). And it was good sitting outside on a summer's evening watching the sun drop into the ocean.

Sidebar - It was my first day back at work after 2 weeks on holiday, and man it was hard. You can see how I felt like just before lunch time here.

1 January 2010

Here's the first of what hopefully will be 365 days of photo taking.

Shot was taken from the front door of my folk's place in Perth, looking towards the evening sky.
