Week8 52 23-31 December

Happy New Year. So ends another year of shooting a shot a week and yes I'll be doing another year... my 9th year.

When I began this, I didn't think it would go on for this long, and I really didn't think it would be this all consuming monster that would cost my many thousands and much of my waking life. Still, wouldn't really have it any other way now.

Enough nostalgia, I'll save the soppy bits for when I go into a decade of doing this. For now, I'd like to thank Dustin Diaz for the initial spark of inspiration and my family and friends that have made this so much fun.

This final photo of the year is of Genie Bouchard in her first tournament of the tennis year, but the last of the calendar year... all the way in sunny and hot Perth, Western Australia.

The reason why our past 2 weeks have been filled with laughter from dawn to way past dusk. Sadly they just got on a flight back home and so I'm posting the penultimate post of the year in a somewhat solemn mood.

Only 3 more weeks left to the end of another year doing a shot a week.

This or rather last week's shot is something we did on Saturday. That's Bindy and Max and this was for a shoot of their wedding invite. Couldn't have asked for a smoother shoot. Great talents, excellent location and perfect light. More next week.

Week8 48  25 Nov - 2 Dec

Took this on the Friday before the weekend storms were supposed to hit Melbourne.

We were warned of flooding and what seemed like storms of apocalyptic proportions. As it turned out, there was pretty heavy rains throughout the weekend, but the flooding and the major storms bypassed Melbourne and affected some flood prone areas and mainly the outer suburbs.

Still it did give me a chance to capture those menacing clouds as they approached my balcony. More next week.

Really got to keep up with these postings better. It's not like I'm ever late for any thing work wise or even socially, so maybe late posting is just my little chance to be tardy.

Anyway, here's this week's shot. I was working on something else but that was going to take a whole lot longer than a week to finish, so here's one I prepared earlier. More next week (or hopefully tomorrow)

Been working on some new techniques for portrait post processing. I needed to get a look for a job I was doing and so I'm now trying to expand it even more. Well, that's my excuse for the late post.... more next week.

Week8 43 21-28 October

The totally adorable and somewhat grumpy Jack came visiting and we couldn't resist a quick photoshoot.

So meet Jack on his belly looking slightly stunned and annoyed but still cute as ever. Surrounding him were his very calm Mum and 2 Aunties, one of which was particularly anxious that Jack would start to learn to crawl and fall off the table. Jack on the other hand was just wondering what the fuss was about. More next week.

Strobist info: 2 x Elinchrom on about 4. The fill was shot through a 175cm Rotalux Octa about 5 feet away and almost inform of the camera right. The other was to background on a C-stand through a 65x65 soft box.

Out on the weekend with the gorgeous Taryn-Ann Swyny (SkyeLineManagement) on her first trip to Hosier Lane.

It was a very chilly evening and she really wasn't prepared for the cold, but she braved on and pushed through. More next week.

Playing catch up with my postings It seems forever and an age that I've last posted, but I'm a little over 2 weeks behind.

Finally posting on time! About to head out for a shoot, but I thought I'd get this post out.

If you're ever at Terminal 3 at Changi Airport Singapore, stop by at the Butterfly enclosure, and don't forget your camera.

There's a great 10m by 10m, 2 story space that is filled with hundreds of all kinds of butterflies at various stages of their lifecycle... it truely is wondrous.

This shot was taken while one of the more majestic looking ones just came to rest not even a foot away. More next week.

Another late post... about 5 days late... might be a record. I'm just playing a bit of catch up while I get my shots from Singapore sorted.

Here's one taken at the National Gallery in Singapore. This was taken at an installation that essentially was a room full of balls that change colour every few seconds. Here's another instance of shooting the shooter. This time a mobile phone  shooter taking a shot of the installation. More next week.

Very late posting, but I'm on holidays. Here's a shot taken of the 2 Red Bull cars during free practice at the Singapore F1 Grand Prix.

Ended up being a race of contrasting results for the 2 cars. with the car in front not even completing a single lap and the car behind coming in second in a wet race. More next week (or in a couple of days or so).

2 Chinatowns in a week... surely there must be record for some thing like this. Was out walking yesterday in Singapore and caught this shot of a couple of tourist shooting a statue, only thing was one was doing a selfie. You could say I was shooting the shooter and so was the selfie taker. More next week from the Grand Prix.

Missed last week's post because it was a really heavy Friday night, that kind of lasted most of the weekend. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

This week's shot, taken only hours ago, takes us back to the streets of Melbourne. This one's from the top end of Chinatown... there's just something about Melbourne's laneways. Full of character. More next week.
