DAY 090. 31/3/11
Back to normalcy, at least for the short term. Been neglecting the weekly strobist shot, so here we go.
The orange flavoured Chuppa Chup was the last of my stash and I though before it goes, I'd better take a shot of it. Tried a bit of HDR to get the wrapping texture to be more pronounced. More tomorrow.

OK last of the Grand Prix pixies. This is from one of the tents. Yes, they have pole dancing in a corporate tent at the Grand Prix.
HDR for kicks and I think she does the rest. More tomorrow.

Got to make this quick. Rushing off to the airport now to drop my uncle off.
I took this during the Grand Prix, managed to get these 2 to seem like they were lost at the Grand Prix. Bit of HDR and 2 very lovely ladies to feature. All's good. More tomorrow.

DAY 086. 27/3/11
Took this of the winner of this year's Grand Prix. Mind you, they were going so fast, I hope this is Vettel. There's a 50% chance I could be wrong.
One thing I've learnt today is, although I have one of the best seats on my balcony, I stupidly went onto the track to get a "better" view. No chance of getting a great shot, what with the crowds, the gates, and the sheer speed of the cars. Next year, it's back onto the balcony... but thanks anyway Noel for the tickets. And if you do get more next year, I'll still take them from you. More tomorrow.

Day 085. 26/3/11
Again I'm trying to space out the F1 shots for the week, so I picked one of these 2 little beauties. They just sat and waited there while their master was inside doing the shopping. Not a sound, not even a step beyond a couple of inches. The only movement was their eyes when they switched their gaze from the front of the shopping centre's doors to whoever was trying to get their attention. (which would be me)
Did a bit of HDR to bring out the fur and the road and sand. More tomorrow.

Pilot of the Airways - Charlie Dore
One of the great things about the Grand Prix, apart for the obvious, is the airshow. And it gets even better when you're 10 floors up and the SkyHawk does a turn right outside your balcony, and the guy inside waves to say hello.
Took this as they were doing their thing. must have got of almost 100 shots of the show, but this just as he sticks his hand out to wave is my favourite, and also the sharpest of the lot. A bit of HDR to overcome the grey skies and also highlight a bit of the clouds. More tomorrow.

Not much photo ops today considering it was raining and I didn't really want to take more shots of the circuit till closer to race day.

DAY 082. 23/3/11
Took this as the first F1 car went round the track. It wasn't an official race or practice day, but I guess it was to test the track and what not. It's starting to happen!
This shot was taken in a one second burst of 10 shots. That's basically how fast the car travels in a second. Did HDR because I'm addicted to it and of course photoshop to get the cars in sync. More tomorrow.

A very very late post today. Now that I've been booted out of my room for the next few weeks, my posts will be late or early, just not on time.
Anyway, today's one is of this lovely oil lamp on a mantlepiece at the Tuscan Bar. A bit of HDR to bring out the texture of the wall and trimming. More tomorrow.

DAY 080. 21/3/11
Did some portrait shots at work today, and this is one of the outtakes.
Meet Kat, here's her trying out this technique of jumping during a shot. Not for the sake of a jump shot, but to lift the face, add a bit of bounce to the hair and perk other things up... sadly in this case, it didn't really work out, but still it was a fun shot. Thanks Kat for trying anyway. More tomorrow.

All attempts to do an early post and have a good night's sleep have failed again. Anyway, here's my black and white for the week.
I took this on my way back just as the sun was behind the palm trees creating this wonderful silhouette.

A bit lost for a shot today. So here's one of the beach taken from the road. Was a bit too lazy to walk down to the water, what with my work clothes and all... well that's my excuse.
The thing I really like about the shot is the lens flare. Did a bit of HDR to lift the texture of the sand and foreground shrubbery. More tomorrow.

DAY 074. 15/3/11
Took this with after spending most of the day playing with the panoramic mode on the camera. Decided to go back to playing with flashes and bokeh.
Took this on the balcony, and it's not so much a ladder as it is a step, about a foot and a half high. Crouched in the right position though, it does look a very tall ladder.

Playing around with my camera today and found the panoramic function. Thought I'd try it and viola. One click panoramic... wow. It used to take a lot longer, a whole lot longer to stitch the shots together to get a seamless shot, but now... I love it.
The shot is of Albert Park Lake, which in a couple of week's time will be the site of the Australian Grand Prix. More tomorrow.

Block Party - Will Smith
Funny day today. It was a Sunday, so the Monday blues were bound to set in at some stage, however, tomorrow is a holiday, so no Monday blues! It started how warm and slightly humid, then with one gush, the cool change came through and it dropped about 5 degrees in a second, and then the rains came through. So now it's cold and wet. I did say it was a funny sort of day.
Anyway, I took this shot with the sun shinning and the sky perfectly cloudless. Did a bit of HDR to bring out the building and did a black and white conversion of the building only. More tomorrow.

Play With Fire - The Rolling Stones
Took this early this morning when I got up. Looked out the balcony and there in the morning sky, a few hot air balloons. I pulled out the camera and used whatever lens I had on. No tripod on hand, so that's the reason for the somewhat not fully focused shot.
Did a black and white conversion and left the fire on. HDR did all that work on the clouds. Hope you like it. I personally like the sky being almost black. More tomorrow.

Bird Walk - Soulja Boy
Finally walking better today. So out of the house I went. I had intended to go to the Melbourne Air Show, but as things transpired, it wasn't to be.
Instead, here's a shot of another thing that takes to the skies... a mangy pigeon. Had a late lunch, and these pigeons would swarm the tables as soon as the people left. I'm sure they carry all kinds of bugs, and they look dirty as hell, but that is the price you pay for Alfresco dining (or as we call it, the smokers' tables).
Thought I'd present it in black and white, just to fulfil my B&W for the week. More tomorrow.

Just got a USB walkman and have been transferring some of my old recordings to digital.
It's been a very slow process, but a lot of fun. I haven't heard some of these recordings since... well since cassettes were in vogue. The quality may be less than bearable, but the sentimentality cannot be under valued.
So far I have about an hour's worth digitised, and there's about another 30 or so to go.
On to the shot. I took this, the first of the completed tapes with the lights of the Grand Prix track as a backdrop. HDR brought out the details of the tape itself. More tomorrow.

DAY 063. 4/3/11
The Apple Magic Mouse. It came with the iMac I got almost 8 months ago, and I think it's seen the light of day maybe a dozen times. I use a pen tablet, so the mouse gets shelved in a little box in the corner only to be used when I lose my pen.
Took this only because I couldn't find my pen for a couple of hours today, and so I decided to use it for the shot of the day. The biggest problem I had with the shot was trying to get the apple logo to stand out. HDR of course fixed that problem.
Anyway I found the pen, the mouse goes back in its hole and that's that. More tomorrow.

Just in the mail today, my new toy. It's a multi-effects, multi-amp thingamajig for the iphone. What it means is now I can plug my guitar into my iphone and have all the amps and stomp boxes I'll need.
I've only played with it for a few hours, but it's been a lot of fun and the sounds are really good.
Took the shot of the iRig and Amplitube application on my guitar. I did some HDR to bring out the guitar texture and all that metal and glass. Now back to playing with the new toy. More tomorrow.
