DAY 058. 27/2/11
It was a very dreary day today. Light sprinklings all day and never a break in the clouds. Was out doing some shopping for work and took this on the way back.
It's been a long day of shopping, grocery shopping (which is really still shopping), lunch and meeting up with friends (while shopping). It's a wonder the weather didn't spoil the day as much as I thought it would.
Anyway, this shot is of St Patrick's Cathedral circa 1897. Really never been inside, but I will the next time I get the chance to. So in the meantime, this is about as close a shot as you'll get. More tomorrow.

DAY 057. 26/2/11
Curiosity - Iggy Pop
Took this at the site of a little commotion. Really funny how a crowd can gather for the smallest of reasons.
Anyway, took this and trusted HDR to bring out all that great textures of clothes, trees, steel and plastic. Really cool. More tomorrow.
As for the commotion, I'll never tell.

Kamera - Wilco
Doing a late night shot again. Well more like early morning shot. It's close to 4am now.
This is a shot of my old camera the Alpha 300. It served me well for four years, and I still take it out occasionally for a play. This time it's paired with a 28-70mm F2.8 Sigma lens. Somehow they seem to go well together, even if the auto focus seems to be on the slow side sometimes.
Anyway, it's a simple setup. Put my black t-shirt up as a backdrop, set the flash up and HDR for that cool texture. More tomorrow.

Boots - Killers
Took a few shots today, but really nothing that was really interesting or of note. So I went back to this shot I took a few weeks ago. There's just something about the boots and and the grass that gets me. More tomorrow.

The Look - Roxette
Took this today on the way to work. Just this really intense looking dog sitting on the back of a ute (pickup truck) on the way to his/her master's worksite.
The contrasting colours of the spots was just too good to resist, especially in black and white.
Anyway, it's late and i'm tired so I'll make it short. More tomorrow.

Love Game - Lady Gaga
Couldn't resist playing around with my flashes and the bokeh thing. Here's my trusty walking stick. Had it for about 10-12 years now. First got it because I didn't want to use crutches when I dislocated my foot, instead, I picked the cooler option - a retractable gold walking stick with a dark wood handle. More tomorrow

Laughing At - Regina Spekor
Took this at the party the other day. This is my cousin, the tattooed one who has a laugh so evil sounding, the devil would be scared. Which begs the question why he would have the hands clasped in prayer on the side of his neck as a tattoo? More tomorrow.

DAY 051. 20/2/11
Honey Bee - Tom Petty
Took this while out walking to get something from the car. It sometimes really pays to carry your camera EVERYWHERE you go.
I'd never seen this piece of sculpture before, although I used to live about a km away from this. Mind you, in-between my old place and this, is one of Australia's tallest buildings - The Eureka Tower; which is the building you see behind the bee. I'll also post some happy snaps from my sister's birthday party soon. More tomorrow.

Empty Tables - Frank Sinatra
It's really late (almost 3am), just got back from my sister's birthday party and finished processing my shots.
Here's a shot of the empty tables just before everyone turned up for the party. It was a great party and many a drunk stumbled home after the party.
So friends, it's late, I'm sleepy and more tomorrow.

DAY 049. 18/2/11
Word Up - Cameo
Been engrossed in this game for a while now. Basically, it's scrabble and as you can see I have several versions of the game on my various Apple devices.
Wasn't at work today, still feeling under the weather. However, between sleeps and lunch today, this game has kept me in good company. More tomorrow.

DAY 048. 17/2/11
Rain Street - The Pogues
It's late and I'm feeling a bit under the weather mainly because of last night's weather. So this is going to be short.
Took this right as the rains hit on the way to football. Minutes before this, the street was dry, so it did hit quite suddenly. HDR really brings out the reflection on the road. More tomorrow.

Kite - U2
Attempted to take a few shots today at football, but the rain was just crazy. And as we all know water and camera don't really play well together. Mind you, these days, I think me and play football in the rain also don't go so well together.
Anyway todays shot is of the kite surfers I did the other day. Really happy with the lens flare I got from this shot, especially when I had planned for the shot. More tomorrow.

DAY 46. 15/2/11
Jump Start - Jethro Tull
Everyday on my drive back I see these kite surfers doing their thing and I try and do my dashboard photography thing, but alas most of it is just a blur.
Anyway I did eventually stop and take a few shots of them. I'm glad I did. This is just one of them. I decided on Black and White because it's really cool to see the silhouette of the surfer against the water. More tomorrow.

Everybody Needs Somebody To Love - Solomon Burke
Something a little mushy for Valentine's Day. Took this yesterday at the Festival. Saw this guy serenading his wife and daughter in front of a whole bunch of people and professing his love.
If that seems almost too good to be true for a Valentine's Day shot... you're right. It's actually a street rapper hitting on this very beautiful mother. He was freestyling through the crowd, rapping about everyone there, about himself, at one point also made a reference to me with my big lens... he was amazing!
I'm glad I managed to capture him right before the organisers made him pack up and move out of the festival zone. Shame though, the guy was really good. Happy Valentine's Day, more tomorrow.

Bounce Baby - Keysha
Despite the fever yesterday, I made it to St Kilda Fest. And I'm glad I did. Bathed in beautiful sunshine and with a multitude of great acts, there was sure a lot of photo ops.
I settled for this shot as my shot of the day because it was just so nice to see this little baby having fun in the sun as her mum bounces her in the air.
I'm sure there'll be quite a few shots from the Festival to follow. More tomorrow.

Proud Mary - CCR
Didn't get out much to shoot today. Suddenly came down with a bit of a fever, and it's still not breaking. Was planning to shoot a few B&W around South Melbourne and St Kilda, but alas, too sick to do anything.
Anyway I took this earlier and played around with tilt-shift around dusk. Did a conversion to B&W, and I did it because I said I'd do a B&W every week, but really the colour version wasn't half bad. More tomorrow.

As A Blonde - Selena Gomez
Here's my portrait shot for the week. Took this when we found a blonde wig in the office. Yeah, blonde wig in the office... it's just another day at work.
Here's Fifi, my ever up for it model, letting the wig do the talking. More tomorrow.

Tattoo - The Who
Out at the driving range tonight. Tired from last night's football, but this was too much fun to resist. Not talking about the golf, more specifically the trash talk from 3, check that, make that 2 non-players and one "semi-pro".
On to the shot. This is Wayne, my cousin, in all his tattooed glory just teeing up for that big shot! HDR to bring out all that green texture, and that great night sky!
Oh, and the result of the shot? See that 75 meter marker in the background? Yeah, no where close to that! More tomorrow.

Hair of The Dog - Nazareth
Meet the dog. Might become our team mascot. Actually makes for a really good football mascot. She doesn't chase balls, in fact she hardly even moves, other than to sit on your foot, or wag her big tail in your face.
She's a bit over 2 years old and a big old sook, and she eats weet bix for breakfast.
Took this as she was still (not a hard thing to do), a bit of HDR to bring out the fur and the grass. More tomorrow.

Quick post today. Took this shot in the smoker's shed. Really like the way the sky reflects off the plastic chair. Of course HDR did a lot to bring out the reflection and the woodgrain.

From Silver Lake - Jackson Browne
What a difference a day makes. Storms over the weekend, and today, near perfect weather. Welcome to Melbourne.
Took this of the lake across from my place. Saw the sailboats zooming through the water, and couldn't resist this. Plus the colour of the lake was amazing today, and I love how HDR has brought out that silvery quality to the lake. A bit of tilt-shift for added visual effect. More tomorrow.

Gimmie The Mic - Limp Bizkit
Got this M-Audio condenser mic the other day. Had a little play with it and it's pretty good for miking a guitar amp, as for a vocal mic, I've yet to test it out. But the biggest surprise of all, it has a USB connection. Took this with my studio monitor in the background. Really can't wait to put this through it's paces. More tomorrow.

The Thong Song - SISQO
Everything's different here. A really huge storm blew in this evening, in the middle of summer. For our friends in the northern hemisphere, who are now in the middle of winter, this may not seem too bizarre, but here, it's just down right loco!
Another thing we do differently is the name we have for things. Take the photo in question, yes we still recognise them as slippers, but they are more commonly known here as thongs! The thing I don't get is how we arrived at calling this thongs, when the rest of the world has a very different definition for the word. Just another example of how we do things differently, I guess. More tomorrow.

Family Tradition - Hank Williams Jr
It's Chinese New Year, and there are some things I really miss about being in a country that celebrates Chinese New Year.
One, it's a public holiday, in fact, it's a holiday for 2 days in some countries, 2 weeks in some others.
Two, the food! I shan't say anymore.
Three, it's a wonder how much cash one can wean from just 2 oranges, if you're single. If you're married, then, it's a wonder how much money you'll have to fork out. Like I said, 2 oranges presented to a married couple get's you a little red envelope with cash in it. And the best part is they hand you back 2 oranges. Which means you'll have more ammo to get more red packets. Wonder how much these 3 oranges will get me? More tomorrow.

Shapes of Things - Yardbirds
Trying to keep up with my black and whites. Well I know this isn't quite monochromatic, but it's close.
What is this? Well it's this big metal cladding on the side of the building. Took this after dinner and walking back to the car. This thing is huge, it almost takes up half a block and about 3 stories high. Should have got something else in the frame to show proportion, but all I had with me was a 50mm, so here you go... metal shapes. More tomorrow.

Two Less Lonely People - Air Supply (sorry)
1 month into Year 2... hell yeah! OK this will be the last of the tennis shots I use for my 365. I've already posted quite a few in an album in Flickr.
This shot was taken in between the end of the mixed doubles and the men's finals. Just this couple in a sea of empty seats. The moment I shot is I knew I wanted to use it for My 365. Apologies for taking 3 days to eventually post this, but better late then never huh? More tomorrow.
