Party People - Fergie
Been a lazy day today. The weather really didn't make it any easier to go out and shoot anything. There was the party to go to at the end of the night which I thought I'd get something from.
Which brings us to today's shot. One of them is my sister, the other is the host, it was his and his housemate's (she's not in shot) house warming party, the other is the world's hottest librarian, and the the other had just come off the set of Dynasty via Derby Day to bring that legendary high cheekbones to the shot. Say hello people.

Wasted Time - Skid Row
Did a trip down to Costco this evening and right next to it is or rather was the Great Southern Wheel. For the short time it was in it's full glory, it was a ferris wheel that was meant to be the Melbourne equivalent of The London Eye... Fail!
It was nowhere near the size of the London Eye, it was not even taller than the Westgate Bridge, it was out in the soulless part of Melbourne - Docklands and worst of all, it was not safe to ride in. So it has been dismantled and been in this state of dismantle for a very long time. What a waste.
Shot this just at sunset and HDR. More tomorrow.

Anyone can play guitar - Radiohead
More shots of my new toy today. That's the Vox Pathfinder, it's about the size of 2 lunchboxes and with it's retro look, it also looks really cool. Sound-wise, it's a tiny amp that packs quite a lot of punch and it's got a really good tone, not exactly the Vox sound, but still very close.
Took this shot with multiple flashes and a constant light source, HDR to get the texture of the leatherette and tweedish front.

65 days to go! Posting this very late. Got back from football, fell asleep on the couch and have just now got to my bed... it's 4 am.
On to today's shot. This is my new VOX pathfinder amp I got on ebay... really small, really cute and really good sounding. I took this with a single flash and HDR. OK I really need to sleep now... more tomorrow.

Goodbye and Hello - Tim Buckley
Spent some time today catching up with my cousins, and invariably the conversation got to last weekend's Moto GP. Sure we're all big fans of Stoner, but really there is only one Rossi!
Here's a Rossi #46 cap from the Moto GP on Philip Island. And I've got to say it was a really really good race. Again we're all happy Stoner won, but the thought of Rossi moving to Ducatti next year just gets us all chomping at the bits. It just seems like the perfect fit the coming together of two great Italians. So goodbye Rossi, from Yamaha and Hello Rossi to Ducatti!
Today's shot is a 2 flash shot and HDR'd to celebrate "The Doctor". More tomorrow.

Back for Good - Take That (yes it's a Take That song)
This is a "keep cup", basically a reusable disposable coffee cup (if that makes sense). It's a great thing. It looks cool and it ticks many of the environmental checkboxes, and I've been wanting to use it as a gift with purchase or corporate gift for some while now... only thing is my sister beat me to it.
On to today's shot. Simple really, just used a flash, handheld as fill light and put the keep cup on my little light box lamp (should really take a picture of it some day). I also HDR'd it to try and bring out the different aspects of the cup like the preference band around the cup and the lid. More tomorrow.

Sushi Girl - The Tubes
Went to an eating feast today! Went for brunch at the Grand Hyatt. It's a serious feast we're talking about... Sushi, sashimi, Oysters, prawns, prime rib, lamb cutlets,, Asian fare, Pizzas, the biggest antipasto spread I've ever seen and desserts as far as the eyes could see. 2 hours of glorious food... has to be one of the best buffets in Melbourne.
On to today's shot. This is of the sushi and sashimi counter. If you look closely, the is a glass section where the cured meats are hanging, and look at the reflection in the mirror and you'll see the seafood. Oh and what you see is just a fifth of the whole buffet. I HDR'd the photo and here you go. More Tomorrow.
BTW, I never eating again!!!!

I Believe in Love - Don Williams
Up early this morning (well, early for a Saturday morning) to get a haircut and a little wander around the markets. Only thing was the weather... shocking, from the beautiful sunny Friday to the freezing rain on Saturday... looks like winter just doesn't want to let up.
Got some bad news about my regular barber, I call him Con the Barberer, he's just had another bypass surgery. That's almost 2 in 2 years... poor guy. Best barber in the world, and he's been doing it at the same spot for over 50 years! (He also has a collection of girly mags to prove he's been there that long).
Anyway, today's shot is at the markets. One of those organic stores. I liked the "rustic" display of produce, so took a few shots and HDR'd them. More tomorrow.

Bark at the Moon - Ozzy Osbourne
OK corny I know. Went out for dinner today. It was Mum's birthday, so we went for part 2 of Mum birthday celebrations. This time it was Indonesian, and it was our favourite Indonesian place as well. Very nice.
Took this during the post-dinner smoke. Figured the tree bark would really come out in HDR and I couldn't resist the little bokeh from the street lights. Actually took quite a few shots today, and might start posting them over the course of the weekend. We'll see. More tomorrow.

Little Cream Soda - The White Stripes
I had the whole day with a camera today. At the beach for a picnic lunch, at a gym for a shoot, in the city for dinner. And all I have to show for it is this image. It's not that I don't like this, it's just that I thought I'd have more of a hard choice in deciding what to post for today.
Anyway, on to today's shot. This is at the beach, with a little picnic with the people I work with. It was just too beautiful a day to spend indoors. Had chinese takeaway and a bottle of cream soda. It has been a while since I had one, and I must admit it's been too long between drinks. I HDR'd this to bring out the wood and glass, and the plastic bag. I love what HDR does to textures. More Tomorrow.

This Strange Engine - Marillion
Went out for dinner today on Toorak Road. Parking was hell, but if you new Toorak Road at all, you'd know that traffic and a lack of parking is par for the course.
Walking to the restaurant we passed this store with this really cool looking bike in the window. Had my widest lens, which has a 77mm filter, which also means that I don't have a polarizing filter to go with it (they cost quite a bit).
Anyway, I took a shot of the chrome engine. Man it looks beautiful (if you're into chrome and the like). HDR'd it to balance off the reflection from the shop window and voila... a non-descript image of a chrome engine. More Tomorrow.

Hold you in my arms - Neil Young
Took this while couch shopping the other day. Admittedly it's about 7 months overdue, but really, my trusty futon is such a good couch, I really didn't see the need. Anyway, push came to shove and it was off to shopping for a couch.
OK back to the shot. While walking around, I saw this old building that probably had seen better days, but commerce and a painter with a RGB fetish got the better of it. Still a good mix of colours and HDR really does make it for me. More tomorrow.
Oh yes and I've got a new couch which will be in play around the turn of the new year. Woohoo!

Taxi - Harry Chapin
Didn't get to shoot much of any worth today, however I did spend much of the morning waiting around to pick my parents up from the airport. Thanks Tiger Air for not landing on time and for letting me get stuck in peak hour traffic due to your lateness, and I also loved the 3 hour wait. It's just the best way to start the day.
Today's shot is of the dreary taxi stand outside the Tiger Air terminal (it's actually a glorified shed). HDR'd it just for the heck of it. More tomorrow.

Steel and Glass - John Lennon
This is kind of a continuation of yesterday's shoot. Yesterday you saw the lap steel, today you see the tools required to play the lap steel. Here are a couple of sets of steel finger and thumb picks, a glass slide and a steel bar slide. I put them in a little wooden box, shot them and HDR'd it all. Just wanted to see the steel, glass and wood textures in HDR.
I did shoot another version of this which you can see here, it didn't turn out like I wanted so this shot won out. More tomorrow.

Knock on Wood - Eric Clapton (I like this version best)
This is my lap steel guitar. About eight summers ago, I found the plans for a lap steel online, so I set about making one. It's made from an old Jarrah fence post (Jarrah being a really dense and heavy Western Australian wood). I put it together with some old guitar parts, some old bicycle parts and some pieces of an old snare drum.I did some french polishing to finish the lap steel, and it's been with me ever since.
This is the first of the lap steels I made, the next incarnation had a bit more shape, but this is still my favourite.
Anyway todays shot was done with a single flash and with HDR to bring out the wood grain.

Took a different route home today and although most of the way was coastal and very scenic, I really couldn't be bothered stopping to get shots. I did make a few mental notes for future shots. Anyway I did think about getting something for today and I took this shot from the car. In HDR and processing, I really like how the pastel tones start to come to the fore.
I'll post another shot that I did want to use, but settled for this instead. More tomorrow.

Duck Walk - Genesis
Been meaning to take a shot of the swans on the lake crossing the road. It's funny because they cross where and when ever they want and traffic comes to a complete stand still. And it's not like they walk straight across either, it's sometimes a case of 2 steps forwards, one step back. I've been stuck in the swan crossing before, with camera in hand, but I've never been the first car, so I've never been able to shoot this up close and personal.
Anyway HDR'd and cropped to actual size. One day I'll get a face-to-face with them.... More tomorrow.

Day 4 of my fever saga and still no end in sight. I get bouts of the fever breaking and then it's back to bed and complete knock out. What the hell is going on?
Really wasn't in the mood to be shooting today, so luckily my new Lumodi Beauty Dish was still on the stand and I kind of grabbed whatever I could to shoot. That's Teddy (named after Teddy Sherringham who used to play for Spurs...) Anyway, HDR and one flash set up. More tomorrow.

Deep Dish - Ani Defranco
Got back to work today to find my new toy in the mail. Meet my new beauty dish. Got it on eBay and they even print your choice of a logo in the middle and also provide you with a softbox cover. Now that really good value. Only problem is that for once this year I was without my camera. It must have been the sickness, because I never leave home with out my camera. Anyway, my flu got the better of me today and I left slightly after lunch to go home and try and sleep off this sickness.
Back to the picture. Eventually got up and setup this shot. Simple shot really, stuck a flash in the back and used the lights of streets as a background. Oh and it was really blowing and raining real hard when I took this shot, so had to keep everything nice and dry as best as I could, which also ties back to the tag on the picture, just swap Chicago with Melbourne. More Tomorrow.

Still a bit feverish today so I'll be quick. More tomorrow.

Time is on my side - Rolling Stones
Had a whole spiel on daylight saving prepared to day, and for the record, I'm for it... but I'm feeling a bit sick right now. Eyes are burning, throat is a bit raw and there's a fever mounting. So it's going to be a short one today.
Today's shot is of a dead clock out in the smoker's shed. Cobwebs and all, it looks like it has seen better days. HDR to get the wood grain going and a bit of colour adjustment to make it a bit warm. More tomorrow. Hopefully a good night's sleep will get rid of this fever.

The Stranger - Billy Joel
Having already introduced you to most of my guitars, I thought I'd show you how they stay on me. Meet my trust worthy guitar strap... it's modelled after a vintage 50's Fender strap, and it's about 25-30 years old now. Well it's either I take a shot of the strap or I'm left with a balcony or car park shot today.
Anyway, HDR on the old leather and the satin sheets really looks cool, so I had to. More tomorrow.

Passion Flounder - Blink 182
Went shopping this morning around South Melbourne Markets and was at the fishmonger, so I couldn't resist taking a shot of what they had on display.
Sorry for the blood and guts in this photo, but I really like what HDR does to stainless steel, plastic bags and the texture of the fish skin.

Lady Marmalade - Labelle
You know what, as of a year or so ago, I would never have considered myself as a coffee drinker. However, since the office put in a coffee machine, I seem to be drinking about 2-3 cups a day. Mind you, I don't really drink coffee on weekends, so am I a coffee addict?
If I am a coffee drinker, I must not be a very discerning one. Most coffee drinkers at work consider the coffee from the machine below par, I however actually like the coffee that comes from those mechanised vending machine spouts. Mochachino is my favourite at the moment.
Anyway, today's shot is of that really nice brew (damn, I thought I could have gotten away with not saying the word brew!) HDR'd of course. More tomorrow.
