Papa's Got A Brand New Bag - James Brown
Here are more juggling balls... these are practice ones. Thought I'd do a shot with my flashes considering the batteries are nice and freshly charged after last weeks draining.
Couldn't resist HDRing this. Really like how the satin sheets turned out. More tomorrow.

Together Forever - RUN DMC
Early post today. Anyway, this post is going to be early and short. I took this of a couple of really good buskers outside the South Melbourne markets today. Again I thought the lack out colours and the texture of the roads may prove promising in HDR.
On a side note, I have been reluctant to HDR people, as I found that the skin is a really hard thing to work out in HDR, however, over the last few weeks, I've been trying to work on processing and it's starting to work out well. OK that's it for me today. Besos people.

Ice Cream Man - Van Halen
Went to a food festival today. I think it was called Taste. Learned a few things today - The new buzz word in food seems to be Tataki (the Japanese term for lightly searing meat or fish and sliced thinly and marinated with pounded ginger); Honey never goes off (this is according to one of the ads I saw there, apparently they found honey in King Tut's tomb); Ginger is really quite nice tasting (bought a couple of bottles of ginger "juice"/extract, and it is glorious)
Anyway, to today's shot. this was taken from the 2nd level of the Royal Exhibition building. It's of a colourful Ben and Jerry's Combi sitting in the middle of the great hall serving up it's delightful flavours.
I also did another HDR shot of the front of the Exhibition Building from my new iPhone. You can see it in my HDR set on Flickr here. More tomorrow.

If The Shoes Fits - Hank Williams III
Putting my feet up. TGIF. It's been a really busy week, but a hella lot of fun. So here's me sitting in the smoker's shed just kicking it back right before heading home.
I just thought that the texture of the shoe, the lightly stained lawn furniture and the concrete blocks would have been a great subject for HDR. More tomorrow.

Send In The Crowns - Judy Collins and Frank Sinatra
Today was show day for our annual stay at home conference. This year's theme was Ego Does The Big Top. Took over 1000 shots throughout the 4 days and here's one I thought would go really well with HDR. I figured the concrete and the bright colours would really pop.
So here's one of the groups that participated in the big show. You can see more of the shows at the Ego Does The Big Top group in Facebook.

Drop The Ball - Anthrax
All the swelling's gone! Ok I was talking about juggling a few days ago, and so here are our practice balls. I swear it's a lot harder than it looks - to juggle I mean... but it's also really lots of fun.
Took this without the help of an assistant. I just set the balls up at the bottom and kept tossing the orange ball and kept snapping with my 2 now somewhat battery-sapped flashes on either side.
Did a bit of HDR but that really wasn't of any use at all. More tomorrow.

Diver Down - Van Halen
Another late post today. At dinner today I had something that started off an allergic reaction. Swollen lip, puffy eye you know the scenario.
Anyway, today's shot is of a duck/swan diving for food. It's either that or it's imitating an ostrich and instead of sand, it's using water. Took this with my zoom lens and did a one shot/multiple expose HDR on this.

Didn't get to shoot much today, actually been a bit busy learning how to juggle. I'm sure it'll appear in my 365 very soon. However here is a shot I did get from the weekend while driving around in South Melbourne.
Today's shot was HDR'd to get the colours of the cyclist's attire and the bricks of the townhouses to really come out. More tomorrow.

Took this at one of the cobblestone alley ways around my place here. This pigeon was sitting in a little puddle enjoying a little splash. I pulled out the camera and just started shooting and slowly got as close to it as possible without trying to spook it.
Thought it was cute, and figured HDR would really make the stone textures pop. More tomorrow.

The Green Door - Shakin' Stevens
What a day. Pretty good I must say. Wake up, vote, hair cut, take photos, shopping, eat, sleep, eat, sleep, watch TV for election results, watch football.
The election results as it stands is too close to call. So fingers-crossed.
Back to the shot. This was taken while walking from the barber to the markets... yes walk! This was one of those glorious buildings you will find walking around in South Melbourne. I did some HDR on this and also changed the color of the door. It was originally blue, but seriously, I couldn't think of anything to say about a blue door, but I think we all know what's behind the green door. More tomorrow.

Didn't think I'd post this late, but better late than never. Was just winding down from a really busy couple of work weeks, so here's the shot.
It was a really wet and cold day, and I really didn't have much to show from the days activities to post. However, my trust worthy car park and HDR cam to the rescue. Next to the balcony shots, the car park seems to be my next go to place.

Another shot of the lift panel that I did 2 days ago. I was trying to take a shot of the numbers changing and I managed to get this after shooting like crazy. All the other shots either came out with number fully lit, not lit or just plain blurry, but this worked a treat. Phew!

Calling On You - Stryper
My iPhone 4 arrived today, so naturally it was going to be the subject of today's 365. Of course, not contented with just a flash and a softbox, I also HDR'd the picture. It really didn't do much though, the picture was exposed well enough and there really isn't much texture to be got and a white table, glass and a wee strip of rubber.
Nevertheless it was done, and compared to the results I had with my initial idea for the shot, this was the clear winner. It had intended to shoot the iPhone with it's camera on, looking back at the camera that was shooting it. The results were seriously grainy images that really didn't do much to sell the virtues or sexiness of the iPhone 4.

From The Balcony - YES
Somedays you shoot all day, (almost all day at least) and the very last shot you take turns out to be the money shot. The best part is, it's not even something I had planned. I drive into the car lift, and as I'm about to enter the lift, I just point the camera skywards and just shot a couple of bursts. How cool is that?
When reviewing the shots of the day, I looked at this an instantly knew that HDR would rally bring about the colours and that surreal effect. Nice.

It was a really miserable day today, just rain and cold winds most of the day. Didn't really feel like going out and taking any shots, but nevertheless I did, however the only good one, or rather one that I could work HDR on turned out to be right in my car park.
Anyway, today's shot is of the emergency horn in the car park. I really like how HDR gets the texture of the wall to really pop. Out than that, it was a simple enough one flash set up from camera right.

OK start of the Premier League tonight, so see you tomorrow.

Brush Away - Alice In Chains
Another quick posting today. Took this shot of one of my drum brushes. They're like drumsticks, only the ends are made of thin strips of wire. You get the "shhh-shh" sounds when you use them. Not a very good description I know, but go check out any old slow Jazz songs, and chances are the drummer's using brushes.
OK on to the shot. Simple set up, it's resting on my wireless mouse and I used a macro lens to shoot it. There's a flash almost directly above it.

"I'm ready for my close up"- Norma Desmond in Sunset Blvd.
Imagine making the post before midnight! Hurray for me! Anyway, here's today's shot. It's of my old Minolta SRT Super camera circa 1973. Apparently this model is regarded by some as the best camera made by Minolta. It is certainly the best fully mechanical camera. The SR-T Super incorporated a full information viewfinder, mirror lock-up, multiple exposure capability and a built in hot shoe... I was quoting the last bit.
Took this shot with my YN 460 and softbox, HDR'd it to get the milky/drawing effect and adjusted the colour cast a bit in photoshop.

Love in an Elevator - Aerosmith
Finally managed to do an early enough post.
Yay.
It's been a busy week, and it's still only Wednesday, so please excuse the lateness and the shortness of the posts.
On to today's shot. There's this building about 800 meters away, and it has this wonderful looking glass elevator shaft. I've been wanting to shoot it for a while, but never found a good enough angle, You see there is a chimney between us, and unless you try hanging slightly off the balcony, it's going to be in the way. So I got my 70-300mm lens out, tripoded it with a bit of weight as it hung slightly over the balcony and zoomed in on the spot. Did a bit of HDR and some photoshopping. Hope you like it. See you for more tomorrow.

Proud Mary - CCR
For us that drive on the right side of the road, the bane of our driving existence is the sight of big trucks on the right lane. Seriously, it's meant to be the faster lane, but I feel there's an element of road bullying when these big guys stay on the right hand lane, blocking traffic.
They say that we should also be aware that they take longer to stop and we should be aware enough not to cut into them too suddenly. That's fair. They too have to recognise that these things take longer to get up to speed from a standing stop. So them sticking on the right lane just slows everyone down.
That's my rant for the day. Today's shot is of a big truck waiting at the lights on the right hand lane, not turning, just slowing everyone else down.
On the photography side, the HDR really brings out the chromey, milky look of everything. Love it. More tomorrow.

Crosstown Traffic - Jimi Hendrix
Took this shot on the drive home. The sun was just setting , the light was pretty good and the lights were red! (see top right hand corner). I got home and had an HDR breakthrough (getting consistency in the HDR images) while working on this shot.
Shot was taken on the Napean Highway at Southland Shopping Centre. That bridge you see going across is actually a few floors of retail space. This part of my drive also has 5 traffic lights in the space of 800 meters, and the chances of going pass all 5 with out stopping is slim to none.
Some stats, my daily commute is 24 kms each way. Going to work I have to pass 53 traffic lights, including 2 guaranteed red lights. There has been only 3 times in my thousand over commutes that either one of the 2 lights have been green while I was crossing, never once have they ever been green together. It's a conspiracy I swear! More tomorrow.

Walk A Mile In My Shoes - Elvis Presley
You know things are getting desperate when I start shooting my shoes. As you can see, my footwear comes in a variety of colours, namely black and brown. They are divided into 2 categories - work and play. And of the nine pairs you see, the black boots in the middle on the top row and the black sneakers right on the bottom row, get used 95% of the time.
Took the shot with a single flash from above the black boots with a softbox. I also HDR'd the picture and hence the slightly freaky colours and exposure. More tomorrow.

This shot is just another one of Melbourne's alleyways in the city. Most of these alleys have hidden treasures in the form of bars, restaurants and shops around the next corner. This one, I'm afraid, holds no treasure other than the bright colours of urban decay.
Ran it through HDR and did some channel cancellation and this is the result - a colour-muted HDR view of one of the backlanes of Melbourne. More tomorrow.

A Hard Rain's A Gonna Fall - Bob Dylan
Finally got to combine the 3 things I've been trying for the past few months. That's off camera flash, bokeh and HDR. Took this shot with the guitar in front of of my balcony door with 2 flash units. Took the shots of the bokeh lights and HDR'd it. Superimposed the lights over the wet glass and layered a reflection of the lights on the guitar. Till tomorrow then.

Aerials - System of A Down
Late posting again. Took this with my new lens, a 25 year old Minolta AF 28-85mm F3.5-4.5. I bought the lens on a whim, but just the sheer tank-like build and sharpness of the lens is really something to behold.
Took this shot just as the storm clouds were rolling in around mid-afternoon. It ended up raining, hailing and being really cold... perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon. I did do a little HDR post processing to bring out the contrasting clouds. More tomorrow.
