Today's shot - dying flower on black, shot with a ring flash. Nothing too wow, but I do like the colours... very dramatic.
What do you think? Till tomorrow then.

Tonight, Jaq prepared a wonderful meal at her lovely house, and instead of showing food shots (which is not a favourite of mine), I took a few shots around her house. You can see more here and here.
Today's shot can be devided into 2 parts. Part 1 is pre-meal where leaning into a shot and going under lampshades are attempted; and part 2, post-meal, where the most my posture can manage is to look up and shoot.
Anyway, hope you like the shot, personally the warm colours are what I like most about the shot. Good night all and see you tomorrow.

Meet my ring flash. It attaches to my flash unit and makes the shot very even in lighting and also casts a lovely haloish shadow behind the subject. All too boring? Sorry, but I do like the effect.
Anyway I thought a shot of my ring flash from the subject's view may make for an interesting picture. I especially like the Xray look it has. I hope you like it too. Besos.

Today's shot is of one of Melbourne's many alleyways. This one is just off Little Lonsdale. I like how the lights illuminate sections of the alley and that we can see a rollerdoor at the end... Crap! I'm critiquing my own photos.. a bit wanky!
Anyway, here's the shot of the day and here's another one that I did of another lane. You can find in Not 365. Till tomorrow then.

Anyone remember the game? I used to kill it! That and Medal of Honor, Rainbow Six, and let's not forget Mortal Kombat... call me Liu Kang!
OK enough game talk, back to the shot. I wanted to take the beautiful sky, minutes after sunset. And there was a good breeze blowing so the clouds were on the move as well. I only wished they'd move a bit more, but nevermind, I stil got the effect I was looking for.
And of course, there's the "castle", all that was, was some building, that with a bit of framing was made to look like it was perched on a mountain top, or on the edge of the cliff. Oh, did I mention that this shot was taken from my balcony. I really don't have that many balcony shots left, at least not from this balcony.
Now I wonder were my copy of Wolfenstein is? More tomorrow from the Welly.

Meet one of God's finest gifts to snacking... Cashew Roca! It's like Almond Roca, only it uses Cashews... duh!
Here are five cans to prove how much I like it. As we're packing up the house for the big move, I figure, I'm going to have lesser things to shoot. So before these 5 empty cans of pure bliss get binned, I might as well...
Today's shot, was done with a ring flash set on 1/16th power with one of my blank canvases as a background.
Oh and if you're interested, Cashew Roca is available at the chocolate factory near my work. Till tomorrow friends.

Wow it's been a long weekend, and not in a good way... OK violins.
Back to today's shot. These are my favourite pair of shoes, they look like football boots, but they are actually sneakers... wow I hear you say.
Today's shot was a simple setup. Shoes on my Djembe, propped up by a few of my paint tubs. Flash was set to 1/16 power, camera left through a softbox about 4 feet away. More tomorrow.

Thought I'd play with my ring flash today. It's a circular tube that fits around the lens and is connected to my off camera flash. It creates very even lighting as you can see.
The subject of today's shot is my wahwah pedal. It's Rocker Wah from BOSS. It's about 20 years old and like all 20 year old electrical products, it can be a bit tempremental. It'll work most of the time, but it does sound good when it does work. I only bought it because it was going cheap at a guitar shop in Perth, I even think I bought it used, and it was only ever going to be a temporary fix till I bought a more expensive crybaby wah. Well dozens of pedals have come and gone, but this one still remains a mainstay in my guitar bag. All because someone once commented that I sounded like Clapton playing Bad Love... funny thing is I'm sure Clapton was using a Crybaby when he recorded the song.
Back to the shot. I shot it on my dinning table, and used a piece of white cloth for the background... photoshop did the blending of the edges. I decided to use my zoom lens, a bit begrudgingly at first, because I didn't like how it wouldn't work in manual focusing mode. I'm glad I did use the lens though, because I found out that there is a push/pull slider on the lens that actually works as a switch to manual focus off and on. Note to self, read instructions more. Note to self 2, must clean dust off subject before I shoot. OK long post today, i'll try to keep it short tomorrow.

A late night again! Seems like this birthday celebration thing never ends! All good fun though.
Was really glad to hear good feedback about My 365, so thank you all for following... as much as I may seem to be tiring of this, I'm really glad to do this everyday.
OK today's shot was one I prepared earlier. I kind of knew I am might have a problem with getting something good tonight, so it's back to painting with light. And my next favourite thing to paint next to chicks... guitars! So here's my impression of a Strat. Besos!

It was my sister, Yvette's birthday today. We had a lovely dinner at Mama Vittoria on Smith Street. Brilliant Italian food. There are a few more shots here and here on my Not 365 that were also quite fun but not good enough to make today's 365.
Today's shot is a simple point and shoot. I let the camera rest on the table and set it on a timer and click. This was the result after 8 shots. OK friends, struggling to stay awake right now, so till tomorrow then.

There are other shots that didn't make it again, and you can find them here, here, here, here and here at my Not 365.
Today shot followed the sunny 16 rule, and was shot and hour or so before sunset.

I've been feeling a little twitch in my right eye since yesterday, and people call me sleep deprived. Well in the spirit of not wanting to miss a day, here's something I prepared earlier.
Today's shot is of a ball of foil. Go up close and see how sharp the image gets. I also like the lighting on this, pretty even and not too harsh on any side, thanks to a nice softbox about on top of the ball and a bit to the right of the camera. Looks like a silver nugget, if silver came in nuggets... does anyone know?

Today's post is inspired by all the talk of ACDC that's been going around since Thursday. So I whipped out the Les Paul Custom Special, set the camera at the headstock, focused it around the 9th fret, set the flash with softbox to 1/16th power to the right of the camera about 4 feet away, and clicked. 23 shots later, viola!
It just reminds me of those music videos where they attached a camera to the headstock, in fact didn't they do that for Thunderstruck?

Nursing some tired eyes and a niggling headache from the night before (a 4am sleep), I turned to another old favourite to shoot. A view from my balcony.
Today's shot was taken at about half an hour after sunset, so the skies had a real interesting hue. Set my 28mm to f3.2, and let it open for about 10sec. I like how it managed to capture the stars in the sky, even though it was a cloudy evening. In any case I can count four stars, so that was a bonus, when I was really hoping to get that one next to the text in the shot.

Went to the Chinese new Year celebrations at Boxhill. Had a nice dinner with a few old friends, did the walk around the night market, and then shot some pool to end the night. Good fun and great company. As with most times like this, there a also a few shots that didn't quite make it to My 365. You can find them in my Not 365 (there are quite a few tonight).
Anyway, today's shot was of one of the stalls at the market. I love the guy's laboured expression as he makes his BBQ pork. That and the fact that it's Chinese New Year's Eve, so he has a crisp new shirt on, as he is engulfed in smoke, just makes for a lovely picture.

Ahh the wonders of painting with light. I'm starting to realise that when pressed for a shot for My 365, painting with light becomes my go to shot. It's relatively easy to set up and it's really fun to see the outcome.
Today's shot is done with an LED keychain light. I setup a plastic champagne bucket on a cardboard box. I set the camera to 10 second timer and then started spinning the LED light from inside the bucket slowly spinning it and raising the light up. I actually saw a similar shot in a photography magazine where they spun a torch around a glass bottle, it looked good, but honestly I think mine looks better.
OK enough for today, tomorrow I should have some shots from a Chinese New Year festival, hopefully they'll be something fun there to shoot. Besos.

Can't believe how much this looks like Bumblebee in mid transformation. This is my cousin Mitch's new car, a Proton sadly, but it's a got those cool stripes. This is a shot of him just getting in for tonight's Welly game.
Took a few shots as usual, it seems to me most of my outdoor shots will be done on a Wednesday, before, during or after football. Anyway there are a few more shots that didn't quite make it to today's 365, here, here and here in my Not 365.

Everyone meet Teddy, Teddy meet everyone. Got Teddy on one of my visits to White Heart Lane, home of the greatest football team in the world Tottenham Hotspurs.
Anyway this shot was a simple setup. Tried a few options... flash in a softbox, bare flash on the right, left, top, even tried back lighting and HDR. Eventually settled on a simple LED light keychain working as a spotlight from the top. Click and it was done. Sweet.

You know, sometimes you know you've got the shot of the day the moment you take it. And when the shot happens at 6.30 in the morning... even better.
Well, today's shot was taken right after the last game of football was broadcast on TV. I stepped out for a smoke and there were these Balloons, just floating across. So I rushed to get my 300mm lens, stuck the camera on the tripod and just snapped.

Anyway, this shot - wine glass by The Public House, Sav Blanc by The Pass, Lipstick on glass by Violet, Bokeh Bubbles by my 50mm F1.7 lens. Good night.

Can you believe it, only 6 more days to ACDC!
Anyway, armed with 3 lenses that span the focal length gamut, my trusty flash gun and reasonable weather at my disposal, today I chose to stay indoors and do some light painting. Oh yes and today I've hit 10% of the way through my 365.
Today's shot is a simple 10 second exposure. I put it on a 10 second timer, jumped to the other side of the glasses and started painting with the torch. Quite a bit of fun was had.
Note to self: glasses really need to be windexed before shooting them. More tomorrow.

Tonight's rain put a bit of a dampener on our attempt to capture Melbourne at night. I met up with an old friend and former classmate - James tonight. We were all ready to climb the various peaks of several rooftop bars to get shots of the city, but alas the weather did not permit. That and the fact that I wasn't really too keen on pushing the pain barrier by scaling anything more than a few floors meant that our shots were limited to only a few locations. See here for another shot.
This was actually taken along the legendary Flinders Street in Melbourne from the comfort and dryness of my car. It's funny, but I never realised how good a tripod, a dashboard makes. All I had to do was let it open out for about 4-5 seconds and let the passing cars and trams do the work. And yes that's the great Flinders Street Station on the right.

032/365. 1 February 2010
Here's today's shot. Miyagi San would be proud of the work that went into this. In the foreground is my wooden mannequin from Ikea. In the background, and here's the hard work bit, 30 seconds per shot of moving a torch from left to right. - every line of light is a passing of the torch from one side to the other. Considering I did 12 shots to eventually get this, it kind of goes against my "less is best" motto.
Time to ice the shoulder.
