In The Midnight Hour - Wilson Pickett
Been thinking a lot about what to do after I finish this 365. And am still undecided. I guess it's a wait and see on January 1 2011.
1/1/11 even that has a good ring to be starting something. I've been scouring the Project 365 groups and there seems to be many who have stepped down to a more reasonable Project 52 (one a week). I'm leaning to that, but you know what, I still like the discipline of shooting everyday with a purpose. But just as soon as i think of keeping on, I remember all those nights that I've had to find something to shoot at the 11th hour... not so fun then.
On to today's shot. Tried to take it at the right moment, but ever the need to take a few shots, I just pulled out the battery. The background is a collection of DVDs I've "acquired" over the years. HDR was meant to bring out the wood grain, but the bokeh kind of muted that.
Whatever the decision I make, as soon as I know, you will know. Last one tomorrow... maybe.

More stuff I thought I had to shoot for My 365. Here's the legendary Nunis pool table. It's one of the rare open air pool tables and it's been with the family for a good 2 decades. The cushions may be a bit unpredictable, the wood panelling a bit weather worn, the ball return system just a tad stubborn, but it has brought us thousands of great games, some epic, some less so... and it probably is home to quite a few red backs. But that's just the way we love our table... homely.

Flowers Bloom - Portishead
The heat has been pretty oppressive this holidays, we've had many days in the high 30s and even as high as the sub 40s (Celsius that is). Anyway, I was thinking of shots that I wanted to feature in the twilight of My 365, and Dad's flowers had to have a showing at least once.
So here it is in all it's HDR glory. just hope the weather cools down a bit. 3 days to go. More tomorrow.

Red Back Fever - The Angels
Meet the friendly neighbourhood red back spider. This particular one, lives outside my door just waiting for prey to get trapped in her web... which is usually me.
Took this as she spun her web in the sun, hence the bright red glow in her abdomen. Go closer (if you dare) and you'll see traces of her web all round her. I HDRd her just to bring out those fine hairs. 4 Days to go... More tomorrow.

When I See You Smile - Bad English
Spent most of the day in recovery mode. ie sleeping and watching cricket. Ahh the holidays, ain't it grand. Mind you it's also put a dampener of my photo taking.
I did a few shots in the garden today, but wasn't too overawed, mind you, it's hard because anything I shoot is going to find it hard to compete with the little darling Madison. So let's just say here is part 2 of Madison's shoot, and not say I was too lazy to shoot anything else.

Little Angel - Bad Company
Meet the cutest little 5 year old in the whole universe. Little Maddy is my cousin's kid and she insisted she be in every shot I took during our Christmas Party. So naturally, she is the subject of today's 365.
Here's Maddy mimicking her great grand mother... too funny. A little bit of HDR to bring out the texture of the cloth. But all the cuteness is from the wonderful Madison. More tomorrow.

Christmas Star Light - John Williams
Exactly a year ago today, I decided I was going to do My 365. I took a shot similar to this and thought about whether a year later I'd actually use a shot like this for the collection. Actually I also thought that I would never have made it to this stage, but that's a different story altogether.
Well, here we are a year later, and here is the shot I wanted... talk about pre-planning your shoot. Well the only thing different this time is HDR, which I learnt about 6 months ago.
Enough reminiscing... I'd really like to wish one and all a Merry Christmas, and I hope you have lots of happy snaps from your time with family and friends. More tomorrow.

Anyway, I've travelled over 3000km today, and am now back in Perth for the holidays... and as you can expect I'm bushed!
Today's shot is of Stephanie. Chick with a gun in HDR. Need I say more? 8 days to go... more tomorrow.

Was at the Welly today and took a few shots, thought I might do one last feature of the Welly before the end. Alas, none were that outstanding or very much different from the ones I've already posted this year, so I revert to this shot with HDR, of course.
It's late, I'm packing, and oh I have a new iPad, but there's time for that later. I'm off to bed now, so... more tomorrow.

Took this at a restaurant we went to for lunch. Pretty good little place that we also went to last Friday.
The lighting fixtures were quite unique, so here's a shot from below. I know it doesn't show much of the fixture, but it is a different perspective. HDR evened out the exposure, as I was going for a darker photo. Hope you like it. 10 Days to go. More tomorrow.

Black Crow - Jamiroquai
With 11 days to go to the end of My 365, I figured I better get to shooting stuff that I always wanted to shoot, but procrastinated.
Here's one of the crow. Well really it's part of a murder of crows (always wanted to use that collective noun... how cool is that - a murder of crows) that hangs around the smoker's shed. Huge, sleek and totally evil looking.
Also couldn't resist HDRing the crow, if just purely for the texture of the feathers. The wood grain was just a bonus. More tomorrow.

Talk about a one hit wonder. I only took one shot all day, and it worked out just fine. Some days are diamonds, and although there are a few hours left of today to go out and take something else, it's raining and cold and wet and I have a million more excuses.
Here's another shot of Jasper, looking a bit pissed off and mangier than usual, but still adorable. HDR brought out the fur and those eyes. Aaww. More Tomorrow.

Meet the Frankenstein of the bike world, it's unofficially called a "Charlie Davidson". This is my friend Mike's project and it's come a long way in a very short time. Would you believe this was born a 250cc Hyosang? Hope he gets it done up soon.
Anyway, I took this shot in it's little shed, HDR to try and highlight the chrome and matt black bits. More tomorrow.

Went out for lunch today and after rounding the car park for a good 5 minutes, the last person to arrive gets the best parking. We're talking rockstar parking here, right outside the restaurant.
Here's a shot of said car "trying" to park right in front of the restaurant. HDR really brought out the remarkable reflection of the sky on the car. And lunch was pretty good as well. More tomorrow.

Thought I'd give Fifi one more shot before I end My 365. That and I have a new camera. That and Fifi's a really good subject to shoot. Do I need more reasons.
So there are 15 days to go, and I still haven't decided whether to end on New Year's Eve or keep it going on New Year's Day. Wonder if anyone's done a 730? Decisions... decisions. More Tomorrow.
Oh and I've just hit 25,000! Was hoping for 10,000 when I started this year; 20,000 wasn't even a consideration; now at 25,000... what can I say but thanks everyone!

Hot For The Teacher - Van Halen
Really still getting used to my new camera. For one thing, it uses an SD card, as opposed to a CF card. Being an eighth the size, forgetting the SD card is quite a possibility... which is my story today. Stuck the SD card from yesterday into my iMac, and forgot to take it out and put it back into the camera. Pretty much a case of having a camera without film.
Anyway. today's shot was taken a few days ago during the Melbourne University's Graduation Ceremony; just as the academics were leaving the stage. HDR did bring out some of the clothing texture and a bit of colour correction to set the mood. More tomorrow.

Was at my friend, Imran's graduation today, and later at a Bon Jovi Concert. First the graduation. Got the usual shots of graduate with certificate, pulling faces, and jumping for joy. However, while waiting for the ceremony proper to begin, I manage to take this shot.
BTW, I also have a new camera today. It's a Sony A55. I'm still getting used to it. Didn't bring the camera to the Bon Jovi concert though, however I'll post a few of the shots from the concert shortly.

Took this on the way home, while the clouds were rolling in. It's been a really funny start to summer considering the number of rainy days we've had since the 1st of December... I think that would be everyday so far.
Anyway, this pub on the corner is called The Victorian. As the literature says, it was built in 1889, and it has long been a local watering hole with a colourful past and with many stories to tell. Intriguing.

OK so obviously from the collar this isn't a stray cat, but it was wandering the streets in the morning eating grass(?) and eyeballing another cat from across the road.
I'm not much of a cat person, but this looked like a shot waiting to be HDR'd. And I like the outcome.
Been using a combination of public transport and the kindness of Fifi to travel to and from work for the past 2 days. Hopefully that'll end today. Anyway, I took this while waiting for my ride today.

Thought I'd give outdoor shots a rest for a while. Found this little radio and set up a bunch of LED lights for the background bokeh. Took a little while to set up, each point of light had to have a battery attached, and I had to set a flash from high above. After HDR, I like how the shot eventually worked out. Kind of reminds me of Close Encounters.

Lampshade - Beck
Still suffering from the after effects of the concert... ringing ears, killer backache and tired feet. I whinge.
Took this before the concert at Saint & Rogue, a quaint little pub for suits mainly. However, if you get there early enough, away from the distractions, the wooden paneling and long darkwood bar and walls adorned with old glass bottles, it's all really quite cool.
Took this shot of an old lamp against the wood paneling. HDR'd it and like the grain texture. Mind you it was a bit of work trying to get this image from a compact, but still I think it works. More tomorrow.

Desire - U2
More images from the new drive home. It's really late and before too long, I'll be at U2's Melbourne concert. But before that there's half a day of work to get through and before that there should be about 4 hours of sleep.
HDR'd this and realised that it does wonders for a dirty car... sweet.

Mele Kalikimaka - Jimmy Buffet (but I'm sure either Bing Crosby or one of the old crooners did the original version)
Years ago I heard someone say that you should find different routes to and from work, because it changes your perspective on things. Well there is another reason, the other route may be shorter.
After years of travelling the same route to and from work, I took a detour along the coast to avoid major gridlock. Having run this new route now for the last 3 days, I've come to realise that the speed limit maybe 20km/h slower; the distance a bit further; but I've cut out at least 20 traffic lights from the journey and managed to shave close to 10 minutes off the trip. So yes, finding a new route does give you a different perspective on life, and for me it's about 10 minutes less travel time. Nice.
Anyway, today's shot is of the trip home. It was a really windy day today, and I noticed the palm trees swaying as I drove past. So here's the shot, HDR'd of course and it's also only 26 days till christmas and 32 days till I finish my 365. More tomorrow.

Still sick and it rained most of the day, which is kind of perfect weather for doing nothing other than watching the cricket and sleeping. Ahh the life!
Anyway, looked out of the window and saw this view, with the dark clouds looming and thought that this was probably a waste of a perfectly good weekend, and it's a Monday tomorrow as well... great. More tomorrow.

Kisses and Tears - Frank Sinatra
How's this for a shot of the day? Went out tonight and saw these guys perform on a single trapeze about 2 stories high. It was not till I was processing and HDRing the shot, did I see a tear rolling down her cheek. Amazing. It was emotional to see them perform, but the fact that she was crying just brings it to a whole different level.
I'm wondering what's going through her head? What sparked the tear? Was it the emotion of the performance, or did they have a fight before the show, was this to be the last kiss, the last performance? Or maybe he had onion breath. More tomorrow.

Cold Gin - KISS
Will make this a quick posting. Took this shot the other day at the Johnston Street Festival, at a bar. the reason being the bottle in question bears the name of my mother's family. Having never seen it before, I thought it was quaint and interesting enough (at least for me) for a shot of the day.
BTW all you hackers out there, don't waste your time using my mother's maiden name to garner passwords, I never use that as an option, I use... (ha nearly gave it away).
Did a bit of HDR to pull some texture out of the photo. More tomorrow.

It's Wednesday night, so it's football night. I realised that I didn't shoot anything today, so with camera in tow, I went to football. Then it started to rain, so Camera + water = disaster, so no shots.
Anyway on the drive back, I took this while waiting for the longest lights in the world to change... twice!
I HDR'd this to get the texture of the concrete pillars, but I really like the total result. More tomorrow.

Little Green - Joni Mitchell
A busy day at work and then some. And now it looks like it's going to be a really warm night. The forecast calls for storms tonight, but all you can feel is the heat. Weather forecasting... in melbourne, it more like weather let's-roll-the-dice-and-pray-we-got-it-right.
Enough ranting. Today's shot is of the neighbour's plant. As a family, we don't do plants, well at least not in my household, but the neighbours have a very good looking balcony garden, so I figured might as well take a shot of it, just as the sun was setting just behind the greenery. More tomorrow.

Got this Fedora at the Johnston Street Festival. Been searching for one for a while, but they always seem a size too small. All Night Long - Lionel Richie
Long day at the Johnston Street Festival today. And I remembered to bring my card with me today. Lots of food, dancing, music and drinking... all of which make for a great day.
A bit tired now, spent most of the evening processing the 300 plus shots and selecting good ones. Anyway, today's shot is of the street parade , and this is the Columbian or Argentinian or Guatemalan contingent. Whatever they are, they are a group of really pretty people strutting their stuff... who could ask for more. There are more photos of the festival here.... 40 days to go... More tomorrow.

Impossible - Shontelle
Managed to stay awake long enough to write this, but then again it's not that difficult considering I'm all a buzz with excitement because my team Spurs just broke a 17 year hoodoo and beat their north London rivals Arsenal!
Went out tonight, with camera in tow. Was ready to take some party shots, when I turned my camera on and... there on the screen were the 2 words photographers hate to see - No Card!
How in the world I forgot to put the card in is beyond me. I've been carrying the camera religiously for the past 323 days, and today I forget to put the card in.
So I get back home without a shot to show for the day. I turn to my go to shot and take a night shot of the rooftop next door from my balcony. And in my joy, I also added the Spurs logo. So shout it from the rooftops people "C'mon you Spurs!" More tomorrow!

In The Light - Led Zeppelin
Posting this at 6.40 in the morning the day after... all because I couldn't stay awake long enough to write this while it was being uploaded.
I'll make this quick. A few days ago, I bought a set of LED lights. Why? I don't know. Another spur of the moment internet purchase again. I had intended to work it into some of my artwork, or even use them at work, but I think they will sit in their packets for a while before I actually use them.
Anyway, I set a few of them up, took the shot and HDR'd them. I like that they are in the same colour as Flickr's logo. More tomorrow.

Hot Chili - Steve Miller Band
It was a funny day... Too sore from last night to do anything, but I did manage to reconnect with a long lost friend. I never thought I'd hear from her again, but I'm glad that if the only thing My 365 blog and Flickr posting was to get me in touch with her, it is/was so worth it.
Back to the shot, took this just after my sister pounded 2 parts dried shrimp paste (roasted) with one part lemon or lime Juice, a dash of sugar, salt and a whole lot of hot chillies. Its a whole lot of yum and pain, if you know what I mean.
Took this from a few angles and finally settled on this. HDR for texture of the mortar and pestle and the sink top. More tomorrow.

Quick one today. Football = tired = need sleep now!
For as long as I can remember playing football at the Welly, this car has been by the road, covered and remains a constant curiosity. It's obviously old, considering the white walled tires. Just wish we knew what it was. Set the shot up on the roof of my car and HDR. More tomorrow.

Disco Duck - Rick Dees
Another day with Guy Gowan, and another world of photoshop revealed. If you ever get the chance, you really have to go for his seminars.
On to the shot for the day. Some back story is required here. My neighbour, a couple of doors down, is the duck lady.
A few months ago, a couple of inebriated friends and family said they saw a duck on the balcony of said duck lady. As they were in that drunken state, I thought it was the alcohol talking.
A few weeks ago when I got back from work, I thought I saw said duck lady with a big black duck or swan in her arms, moving quickly into her car as I was driving into my lot.
This morning, I finally got photographic evidence! There in plain sight, a white duck and a black duck/swan/goose (I can't tell the difference, as you can see). Maybe the fact that I saw duck lady 2 nights ago with a "ban duck shooting" t-shirt should have given it away.
Anyway, HDR the shot and viola! More tomorrow.

What a long day... long but really interesting. Firstly, I hit 20,000 overnight. So thank you all my Flickr friends, fellow Bloggers and everyone that's come by for a peak.
Well today was interesting because I was at a Guy Gowan Photoshop Seminar all day and at a Peter Coulson Photography Seminar all evening.
Let's begin with Guy Gowan. I've spoken of him before. He's a Photoshop master, but he never, ever uses any of the tools that photoshop provides. It's all in channels (and I swear it's better, faster, and completely non destructive - no pixels are ever harmed in his work). He used to consult for Adobe, and yet he bags photoshop for not being as good as it should be. I love the history he provides of the evolution of photoshop... just brilliant.
Now to Peter Coulson. He's Australian commercial photographer of the year amongst other accolades, and he was brilliant as well. Just seeing him talk about lighting setup and he's workflow process is unbelievable.
However, having listened to both today, it's really interesting to see how both Guy and Peter have almost complete opposite views on photography and photoshop. Like I said interesting.
OK don't want to bore you anymore, and I have a full day of Guy Gowan tomorrow. Which is probably why I took this shot today. It is kind of an amalgamation of everything I've seen and heard today. More tomorrow.
Oh and sadly, they both do not like HDR the way I like HDR... to each his own I guess.

Lips Stitched Tight - The Ghost Frequency
Took a few shots today around the house, from the balcony and the surrounds, but nothing really took my fancy. Right before posting something that I wasn't really thrilled about, something caught the corner of my eye. Saw this small football I had shot once during the world cup, figured the texture would really pop in HDR, so I got my flash and shot it... nice and tight.
On another note, should hit 20,000 by the morning. So thanks everyone who's ever come by.

It's Raining Again - Supertramp
Seems like winter is refusing to leave us. I've packed up all the winter woolies and still the cold remains.
Went out for dinner in sleepy Kew today, in the pouring rain and took this shot while on a smoke break outside. Food was good but slightly on the insufficient side. On the menu was Italian tapas (?), so you can see the relevance of the shot with a Macca's just off to the side.
Single shot HDR. 48 days to go... besos baby.

Opera Singer - Cake
I did it again. Started uploading this at about 2am and it's now 6.30am that I actually get to write this out. Really? I couldn't stay awake for 5 minutes to write this out? Anyway I want to tell you something I saw tonight that I'd only ever seen in the movies - the singing chef!
Went for dinner tonight at Middle Park, a stones throw from where I live. Had this lovely Japanese meal and on our way back to the car, I saw this restaurant/ bar/ cafe/ bottleshop full of people listening to the proprietor or chef sing popular italian opera.
He had a beautiful Tenor voice and he was actually serenading to the people. It's not something I'd ever seen before, and I was captivated, and so were the half dozen or so passer-bys... not to mention the diners who were completely mesmerised. Stayed for a couple of songs and vowed to go back there in the very near future and get right up close to the action.
Today's shot is from the outside of the restaurant/ bar/ Cafe/ bottleshop. Had the Canon with me so was confident of it's ability in very low light conditions. I HDR'd the shot and managed to catch the brilliant tenor in action. Actually had a few shots that were pretty nice from the Japanese restaurant, but this had a better story attached to it. More tomorrow.

Looking for something to shoot today, and I came across an unopened box of pastel crayons. Unopened because I haven't used pastels in years, but even more so, I haven't painted in about 5 months. I do miss it. Maybe this weekend, and maybe with pastels... you never know.
Today's shot was taken with a 50mm and a handheld flash. HDR'd for the texture, but really I like the depth of field.
